How to Fix College Football

They havent been true students for over 30 years now.

Because a degree in “underwater basket weaving” is completely pointless.

No offense amigo, but I think you’re missing the point. Passing off talented kids as student athletes paid in part by corrupt alumni associations etc, coaches being paid tens of millions etc. I have no issue kids being paid for their skills, but it should be in a developmental league.

It’s a house of cards, but so it the wider culture. We are living in the greediest and most corrupt age in human history. AI is a ponzi scheme, near as I can tell. The social media billionaires keep getting richer by literally abusing people and undermining mental health and cultural cohesion.

Well, but that’s just the way it is. Okay.

It is indeed a developmental league, it just happens to be sponsored by a network of universities.

Here’s a point I saw with a quick search:

Only about (1.6%) of college football players make it to the NFL, meaning the vast majority exit the system without a rigorous, meaningful degree or solid post-graduation prospects, all while risking permanent neurological damage such as CTE. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Oh absolutely. Thats true for ANY sport.

Fill Ford Field with every high school D1 football starter in michigan. 1 will make the NFL. yet most think they can or will.

I agree these kids SHOULD be going to class. But they havent been. Thats been an issue WAY older than NIL or the portal. Older than the BCS era.

Thats a massive problem that can/ wont be fixed.

So the best thing you can do. Is make a league where at least its a level playing field and entertaining. While keeping the networks happy,

The lower divisions (fcs) is for true student athletes.

But just the simple math will tell you.

72 teams. 80 players each. Average is 4 years in college. (Some stay 3 some 4 some 5)

So thats 20 players per school. 20x72 thats 1440 players. Yet less than 400 will be drafted or UDFA. so even with this league its still under 30%.

But you dont need a degree to make a living

Cmon. The Big Ten did not lose money. Do some members operate at a financial deficit for their entire athletic program? Of course they do. That’s where booster and donor money comes in. Additionally, some of the members like Rutgers are spending like drunken sailors to get their facilities up-to-date, and competitive with other Big Ten members.

No, individual Big Ten football programs generally do not lose money.

They are the primary engine generating millions in profits that keep entire athletic departments afloat. [1, 2]

However, because college athletic departments report their finances as a collective entity, the heavy losses from non-revenue sports (such as track, swimming, or gymnastics) often swallow up the massive profits made by the football team. [1]

Again, there is a 0% chance the Big Ten relinquishes their stranglehold on the TV markets the currently have in an effort to create an even playing field. As I mentioned, these are not professional sports franchises with the stating goal the well-being of all franchises. Their motivation is obvious. The universities are strictly interested in their own singular well-being and the big 10 by itself offers the best opportunity for that of any conference in the country.

It’s not a horrible idea but it’s not happening.

I’d say there’s a better chance the Big Ten add additional members to create 3-12 team divisions and then exit the NCAA completely. There are still major markets out there that could literally completely eliminate any competition from other conferences. Schools like Arizona State, University of Colorado, Cal Berkeley, Stanford, Boston College, Virginia, or Virginia Tech etc. All of those universities reside in major media markets.

Exactly. Which is why they should be paid handsomely for their efforts.

The TV is over paid*

Fox and the BTN are not making as much money. Meaning the next contract will be MUCH smaller.

The bigten is over paid. Hence why they are trying to go to a 24 team playoff. Means more money.

Ha. You’re completely ■■■■■■■ clueless. I can’t fix your level of stupid.

It just came out in the latest summer meetings.

Everyone is making money. No one is in the negative, however businesses and private equity. Want bigger margins. Its not about making money. Its making MORE money.

SEC ESPN tv deal has a higher profit margin than B10 FOX tv deal.

Fox’s next deal with the big10 wont be as high, meaning less money for the b10. Sec deal will be bigger more money for them.

Thats why i said a national TV deal would be better. And schools like UoM, Oregon and osu. Would agree too it because it would be a better deal than what the new Fox deal will be.

Updated my conferences.

72 teams. 6 conferences of 12.

Let’s hope something like this happens. Would be nice to see the old pacific conference put back together. Having Stanford play in the ACC is just weird.
