Lions have no chance to win a superbowl with Holmes as GM. Roseman gets it and that’s why he has 2 SBs and 3 appearances in the last decade. This is how a real GM approaches the deadline. Lions have a scout as GM while the Eagles have a mastermind.
Well, since the Lions have zero chance now, I guess I’ll stop watching. Thanks for setting The Den straight. I don’t know what the post of the day is…but this is the opposite of that.
Holmes last two drafts have been abysmal, so he’s not even a great DOCS anymore. He built his reputation off of first 3 drafts (mostly 21 and 23) and he’s been basking in the glory of those two drafts for the last 2.5 years. There’s no denying our team would’ve been better set up to succeed if we had a GM with this mentality. I really don’t understand what the plan is here anymore. It really does look like he’s built a team set up to win 9-11 games every year but never do anything further. He has taken zero risks except for awful ones on day 3 of the draft, and we’ve suffered for it. The fact that people still carry this guys water is beyond me. He started off like he was the best thing to ever happen to football but now he’s holding the team back. For them to not add to the OL yesterday is inexcusable. He is the opposite of Roseman, and that sucks for us.
Howie thinks more from a business perspective. You can’t be afraid to fail or take risk. Holmes is more build through the draft status quo approach draft church choir boy.
Seems like we’re still in rebuilding mode. I thought at some point you move from that phase and go try to win a chip???
Enjoy the rest of the season. I hope you believe in Kyle Allen because no way Goff makes it through the season getting smashed 6-10 times per game. Your GM failed you. It’s ok to admit that. Overall he’s done a decent job. He spiked very early and is now in decline. This franchise will be back to being the biych of the division soon enough. When you take zero risks you stay mediocre. When you miss on 80% of your draft picks it’s just a matter of time:
2024 draft:
Arnold (has been bad-not an nfl starter on contender)
Rakestraw- some bad luck here but he’s looked awful in very limited appearances on field
Manu- was a UDFA that he gave up material assets to reach for, and looks awful. Worst pick of entire draft.
Wingo- drafted injured. Still injury two years later. Looked ok in little sample size. Likely a non-factor moving forward.
Vaki- STer. Whatever pick
Mahogany- looks ok. Might be decent starter down the road. Injured.
2025 draft:
Tyleik- has batted some balls. Otherwise has been pretty bad. Looks to be non-starter.
Ratledge- has struggled and shown flashes of solid play
Teslaa- traded tons of capital to move up to get. Has made two really nice catches. Not currently part of plans on O. Still hope here, but not looking great atm.
Frazier- another injured guy. Some fans think he’ll help. He may because OL is so bad. Unknown.
What an awful take, seriously, Chicken Little. Could it eventually come true? Maybe but so far he’s turned us into one of the best franchises in the NFL the last 3 years.
If you’re going jump ship after a 5-3 start against what we all knew was a very difficult schedule then you’re just another fair weather fan. Quit reading and believing the sky is falling crap and let it happen before crying about the demise of the team that has finally given us what we’ve waited 60 years for. We were one half from the Super Bowl 2 years ago and won 15 games last year, remember ? You’ll be happier and so will we….
A little harsh, especially since we’ve won 12 and 15 games the last two years.
But I’ll give you that while his window is open, he’s risk averse. He did say early on that there are franchises (Balt. KC, etc) that he wants to emulate. And those are franchises that draft well, keep their talent, and are consistently good.
The sticking point seems to be this:
Brad thinks that if you’re good every year, and you get to the dance (playoffs), you have a good chance at converting one or more of them into a SB ring. Examples: Patriots, Chiefs. Recent counter-examples: Ravens, Steelers, Packers.
Others here say if the window is open you need to spend more resources to put you over the top (Examples: 2021 Bucs, 2022 Rams). But I’m sure there are many counter examples of spending foolishly for one piece that won’t put you over the top (e.g. lets see what the Colts do this year)
The Eagles are tough to classify. Roseman does a little of both.
The house was on fire. He put out the fire. He opened the window. He sat back to admire his accomplishments. He fell through the charred floorboards and died.
And why didn’t we make it to the SB?!? Because we didn’t add corner depth worthy of starting when everyone got hurt. Same with DL and corner last year, and DL and OL this year.
No I don’t. I’ve stated many times that Holmes did a phenomenal job in 21-23. But he’s in severe decline. He built the house, but forgot to put plumbing in.
