I Love Gibbs but……

I think this team has a different personality with DMO starting the game. I’m used to the lions bullying teams around and that’s just not how we operate with Gibbs. Would love to see us go back to a little more balance between them like last year. Our identity was punching teams in the mouth. This year the Packers and Vikings specifically have turned it around on us.

There is no difference between Gibbs or DMo being the one to get the ball and get hit 2 yards behind the LOS because the OL can’t run block.

i was gonna agree with OP, but you raise a troubling point

Just watched the packers get beat by the Panthers running the ball. Chargers destroyed the Vikings on the ground the week before we ran for 65 yards. Feels like we’ve become a finesse team on offense. I’m sure there’s more to it but our running game right now isn’t where it needs to be

One bad game. Let’s see how he responds. To much talent and too many explosive plays to keep on the sideline to much. And I’m the buggest Monty fan.

Yea I’m definitely not down on Gibbs at all. Just feel like we’ve lost our identity a little bit. I’m still shocked how the Vikings came in and pushed us around. Really hope the Ravens kick the shit out of them this week.

I’ve noticed this as well.

The “eye test” shows that Monty is the more effective runner although I guess stats are showing Gibbs as better this year.

Gibbs is a top 5 RB in the entire NFL. I’m indifferent if we start the game with him or Monty being the first person to touch the ball… but if we expecting that to really change much I think we’re grasping at straws, respectfully.

I think this reflects some major recency bias. Outside of this last game - the prior 4 games combined Monty has 44 carries for 122 yards. That’s a whopping 2.7 yards per carry. Sometimes people need to chill with the overreactions to one game.

Remember when the Lions were on their own goal line and tried to run up the middle on back to back plays? The 2nd almost resulting in a safety? DMO was the back… Doesn’t matter who’s running it if the blocking is shit

Yea I’m just looking for a spark. I watched the Chargers absolutely embarrass the Vikings the week before. I’m just shocked at how they pushed us around on both sides of the ball. That fumble by DMO really hurt. Felt like that run might have got us going. Not used to the lions being out-coached like this.

again-right now, we have line boogers-yet, Monty and Gibbs are two different RB’s with two different running styles. Monty is the power-run through, run over, make his own run lanes type, Gibbs is the fast, nimble, back that can juke defenders and get quality yardage that way. but neither is eye-opening “at the moment” due to other things offense, neither back is at fault for dwindling production because the line has to all function together at once correctly to then have great results.

I’m very used to the Lions being out-coached like this.

I’m just not used to Campbell and company being the coaching staff out-coached.

Prior to Campbell the only consistent with the Lions was that they would almost always lose multiple games a season in this fashion.

Completely agree. While Monty isnt’ going to fully compensate for the absence of Ragz’n’Zeitler on the roster, I’m a fan of beating them up early to set up the other stuff. Monty is how you do that.

Sad, but true.

Except the Ravens game, Monty hasn’t been anything to write home about.

Another overrated RB that the fans love. And I’m not referring to Gibbs…

Jamaal was a “stud” here too. But the second he left he was a nobody. Same will be true with Monty. That role can be filled with day 2 pick easy.

I find it crazy that anyone’s solution to fixing this offense is to play Monty any more than they have to over Gibbs.

Monty is a 72 yard run away from a ~3.6ypc back…toughness and grit doesn’t equal talent. There are dozens of backs like Monty and only a couple like Gibbs. The opposite of a solution to fixing the running game is more Monty and less Gibbs

Not saying play Gibbs less….just maybe start off with Dmo like last year. Even Montgomery will tell you Gibbs is the best back in the NFL but this year the Lions running game isn’t there. Just looking for a spark is all.

I get it but Monty isn’t a spark. Actually quite the opposite imo. He is rapidly declining from what I’ve seen.
