If Goff is your guy, when do you extend him?

The case is made a lot for the 49ers offense being a plug and play offense because of Shanahan and the talent in this offense. The QB can be a game manager type and still be successful. Plus this team probably has the best defense in the league. It why they can put someone like Brock Purdy in the offense and still be successful. The case can be made that the Lion’s offense is very similiar if not more so. The defense is obviously not there yet, but the offense has top ten talent in every position, minus TE, but it’s an offense where you basically manage the offense and not make mistakes. It’s why Goff was so successful and might be ideal for this offense especially after prioritizing not turning the ball over. In truth though, there is probably is a lot of QBs that could be successful with it.

More than 2-3 players are worth the money they are making.

The mistake is signing a garbage quarterback to a premier-level deal. Why does it happen? Because teams feel it’s worth the risk. They’d rather risk overpaying a guy than going into Bears-Jets-Texans-Panthers purgatory of not having a quarterback. There’s probably a reason that zero teams play moneyball with the QB position.

Good quarterbacks get paid. It’s the way the NFL works.

Yup follow suit like everybody else. And end up like everybody else :+1:t2:

QB1 is so far down the list of things we should be even the least bit concerned about this offseason.

Things you can bet your house on.

  1. Goff is QB1 in 2023.

  2. We aren’t going QB in the 1st round in 2023.

Goff is under contract through 2024. There is NO reason to even discuss an extension until 2024 offseason.
