Improvement Stat Drop

First seven games:

  • 1-6
  • Goff 63.9%, 12 TD, 6 INT, 93.2 rating
  • 11 offensive turnovers (5 fumbles lost), 1.6 per game
  • Defense giving up 32.1 points per game
  • Defense giving up 266 pass yards per game (145 run)
  • 11 sacks, 1.6 per game
  • 5 defensive turnovers (2 INT, 3 FR), 0.7 per game

Final ten games:

  • 8-2
  • Goff 66.0%, 17 TD, 1 INT, 103.8 rating
  • 4 offensive turnovers (3 fumbles lost), 0.4 per game
  • Defense giving up 20.2 points per game
  • Defense giving up 231 pass yards per game (148 run)
  • 28 sacks, 2.8 per game
  • 17 defensive turnovers (10 INT, 7 FR), 1.7 per game

Notes:

  • The run defense over the last 10 games excluding the Panthers game improved from 145 yards per game to 128
  • The sack rate across the last 10 games would have been good enough for 7th in the league had it been that high all season
  • The Lions were ranked 1st across the whole season for offensive turnovers with only 15. Having only 4 in the last 10 games is ridiculously good ball control
  • The defensive turnover rate across the last 10 games would have been good enough for 4th in the league had it been that high all season

Enormous credit to Dan Campbell and indeed to Aaron Glenn too, those defensive numbers for the last 10 weeks are hugely impressive. Based on this, the only major area to address is the run defense.

I will say that we were really injured in that first set. Can’t get chemistry and rhythm if you’re not playing.

All impressive except for the rushing yards allowed per game, but granted the Carolina game bias’s those numbers. Defense did an excellent job limiting the run last night.
