Alot of the “cute stuff” is what allows a conservative smash mouth run game to thrive and find daylight. It sounds counterintuitive until you map it out. The Steelers under Bill Cowher did it for years. They were smash mouth but ran a bunch of “cute stuff.” The “cute stuff” works if the other team is selling out to stop the run game. Having to defend the “cute stuff” forces defenses to play the run game honest, even when it doesn’t work.
The Bears were ready and stopped our “cute stuff.” They also gave up 200 yards rushing in the process.
