Yeah, there was a scheme change between 21 and 22 and I don’t think it was particularly kind to Sean. 2021 was almost exclusively a zone scheme where he did most of his damage running inside zone and split zone. 2022, I honestly couldn’t really tell what they were running but it looked more like gap scheme stuff where they would get stuck heads up because everyone was throwing these crazy fronts and run blitzing the daylights out of the early downs. I think we had a qb who couldn’t count the box and I get the confusion when the $ and * both walk down and the guy hands it off…wtf?
Either way I dont think Tucker was going to do much, even if the scheme had set him up better. It was apparent to everyone that he didn’t have the same acceleration and pretty early on started shying away from contact. Just was clearly playing in pain and wasn’t the same guy.
Would love to see him get healthy and get a shot at making a roster. When healthy, he is the real deal and is really something to watch.
Fair enough. I think he’s pretty explosive going forward (as shown by those crazy jumps) and I think you can see it on his tape, but I can also admit that he had a runway for many of his longer runs. It’s in some of the shorter runs where I really see it, like after he’s run up into a pile, he’ll often make some pretty eye-opening bursts to get away from it, things like that.
But I have a feeling we’re seeing basically the same thing and sort of ascribing different reasons for it, which happens all the time when evaluating.
I like Barry, but who the hell cares !? this is now April of 2023. if he had ONE season with more than a thousand yards great and fine, but that was then. and we are weeding out who we want in 2023 NFL Draft.
The point is sometimes there’s a reason guys don’t put up a ton of career college stats. Sometimes they’re behind someone, like Barry was behind Thurman Thomas. Sometimes they’re hurt, sometimes they just split time with lesser guys cause they’re older.
You listed the career stats of all the other RBs around Abanikanda (Bijan, Charbonnet, Tucker, etc…), our point was there is a legitimate reason Abanikanda didn’t have as good of numbers as those guys.
Reminds me of a former draft pick of ours, Aaron Brown. Izzy doesn’t look like a RB, skinny legs, lots of straight-line speed but no wiggle or moves to make defenders miss…but that’s just my 2 cents. Give me a RB with some thicker legs and some wiggle over straight-line speed and can jump.
He’s got skinny legs but plenty of junk in his trunk. I agree that he doesn’t have a lot of wiggle, but then neither do Jonathan Taylor, Rhamondre Stevenson, Pollard, Pacheco, Henry or Dalvin Cook. Neither did Eddie George, Eric Dickerson, Shawn Alexander, Peterson, The key is subtle movement as you slalom forward, which is vision based, and Izzy shows plenty of that on tape. I’ll admit he doesn’t have the best contact balance in the class, he’s usually moving too fast. It’s better when he’s in balance but he’ll never be mistaken for Kamara.
It’s pretty easy to see how thick he is overall which is obviously why he weighed so much. I do agree that he’s got skinny calves, but the rest of his body is pretty thick.
