Yeah I didn’t either, though that was injury-based so that’s a little different. We never get those reports. Though really we should always expect small LBs to fall.
Well for a first RD , some bend might be nice a little more athletic ability. He is going to struggle with athletic OTs.
@Thats2 I agree with your assessment 100%
I love the kid.
I question his ceiling not his floor.
The ceiling I see makes me think 3rd rounder.
I suspect depending on how the board falls will drive if he goes mid 2nd or late 3rd. I don’t see him being on the board in the 4th round. He is a clear top 100 guy. Someone you can pencil in as a everyday starter for 8-10 years.
Plus the Buckeyes winning it all drives his draft status up some. Everyone loves a winner.
Does Hutch become a top 3 guy if he does not DOMINATE that game against OSU. His end of season performance and then his combine numbers took him from a top 20 guy to top 3.
So Sawyer will have some of that effect working for him.
I am hoping he is around in the 3rd and the Lions can grab him. No way he makes sense to me with that 28th pick. But hey what do I know. Holmes is a mastermind.
That’s a really good breakdown
Just Facts
Laiatu Latu beloved by many last years draft
| Wingspan | 78¼" | |
|---|---|---|
| Arm Length | 32⅝" |
Jack Sawyer, hated by those same posters, for his arm length
| Wingspan | 77⅛" | |
|---|---|---|
| Arm Length | 31¾" |
And Aidan Hutchinson just for fun
| Wingspan | 78⅛" | |
|---|---|---|
| Arm Length | 32⅛" |
It’s not JUST the wingspan/arm length that’s the problem with Jack, it’s all the stuff mentioned above too. He’s not on Hutch’s planet as an athlete, and he’s worse than Latu (9.37 RAS) as well, not to mention his hands aren’t on that level either… though that’s no insult, Latu’s were some of the best we’ve seen in a long time.
Well Hutch went #2 and Latu went in the teens.
Yep.
Well, that is some cherry picking vs the whole picture of each player mentioned.
It is literally the exact opposite of Cherry picking. When the reasons given are because of his arm length.
Maybe it’s the Cherry Wheat you’re holding onto while you’re typing this?
I just see it as comparing measurements of those 3 players. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. It’s just the other aspects of Sawyer aren’t as good as the other 2 with the exception of motor. I like Sawyer, but I think some of this first round talk is a little “out there” to me. The highest I’d take him is maybe bottom of the 2nd.
Getting Jack Sawyer in the 2nd would make as happy as when we drafted
Brian Branch
Or
Boss Bailey
I’d be fine with it personally. Just not in the first round. Of course now BH is going to draft Jack Sawyer in the first round lol.
Hopefully if we do draft him he’s more in the caliber of Branch than Bailey.
James Pearce round 1
Jack Sawyer round 2
Just so Thats2 can have a meltdown lol
Thankfully I don’t have to worry about the first part of that. Here’s what a scout said about Pearce in Bob McGinn’s latest article:
"At Tennessee, he was literally a no-go. You ask somebody there: ‘Hey, if you had a chance to come to the league, would you bring this guy?’ They’re, like, ‘Absolutely not.’ On his own program. The whole team’s working out and he’s in his apartment. They didn’t know where he was.”
There is roughly a 0.0% chance he’s on our board.
Sawyer will be on our board for sure, but I don’t know how high. I think the 2nd round is too rich personally, but not quite to meltdown levels.
The real reason is that your DL was given raises late in the year and they then played better. It’s how mercenaries operate typically.
ok Hutch, how is he going to play post injury, Is he going to look like his same old self or be a bit slower or what, I bing up Hutch-to ask what kind of a DE we need? I’ve heard it said that Jack Sawyer is a third-round prospect, yet with the hype, people talk as if he’s a 1st rounder-no question. let’s play the game and say Jack Sawyer is a mid to late second, ok …is that a God-awful DE ? do we need someone @ DE that is a "tear your head off beast ? or can we certainly do real well, with a DE that is a “little” bit more relaxed, which by now we are hearing Sawyer is???
It’s not relaxed, it’s his stiffness and lack of bend, then he is kinda a flake also. I think they will be better player anywhere in the 2nd Rd. Taking him in the 2nd seems like reaching for need.
by “relaxed” , I meant maybe Jack is a little slower speed wise or less of a killer than Hutch, yet if Sawyer can get sacks, help provide good pressure as a defender - what is wrong with that? if QB’s run away from Hutch -they run into Jack Sawyer…
So he is the only player that can do what you said ? Why reach ? Sawyer is ok but there better players at the bottom of the 2nd. I mean if the staff takes him there I’ll be ok with it, but I’m sure they will be a better passer rusher at that spot.
