Jamo looked like a rookie out there today

The problem with off days is , it could be a games for all the marbles. The problem is every catch is with his body. Practice make perfect. Jamo needs to get his ass on that jug machine and see a doctor for mental concentration

I don’t think it’s a case of Jamo and Goff not being on the same page so much as just an off day where they weren’t clicking.

I can muster much more video evidence of that over the last 20 games than this turd of an effort.

Jamo probably got into a bad fight with his girlfriend on Saturday night or something. Chill.

Jamo and Goff both struggle with deep throws. As previously mentioned in this thread, Jamo has trouble tracking things over his shoulder. He’s much better running post routes than corners or flys because it lets him track the ball easier. Goff had some trouble on the really deep balls, especially with Jamo, when it comes to leading his receivers effectively. Even on the deep balls they’ve connected on, Jamo often has to slow down or adjust. Especially when playing a front like the Browns’, I can see how it could be tough for him to get the ball to the right spot for Jamo.

All that said, anyone that hasn’t noticed Jamo making huge progress in the last couple of years hasn’t been paying attention. For the first season and a half, Jamo was basically running deep or doing end-arounds, and that was it. Now, he’s running intermediate routes, more complicated route trees, etc… and he’s catching those balls. He’s made some really tough catches in the intermediate distances- some where he just gets lit up, and still holds on to the ball. He was not making those catches his rookie year. And he’s always been, by all accounts, a good teammate, a hard worker, and a willing blocker.

He and Goff weren’t synced up well on the deep balls yesterday. But IMO, Jamo continues to gain more and more of Goff’s trust, and the pair will only get more in tune over time. Jamo didn’t look his best yesterday, but if you think he looked like a rookie, you’ve forgotten what he looked like as a rookie.

I put this in the game thread but it belong here more.

Tracking the ball clearly isn’t his strength and for a deep ball artist that’s a prerequisite if you ask me. He’s gotten better at it but he still needs to improve a lot more.

In this case he should have known the ball would be coming to his outside shoulder. So naturally he should have looked over that shoulder. Bad technique.

I think we all have to remember that he didn’t get a lot of playing time in college so we’ve had to witness the growing pains as he learns these things.

He needs more time, reps and practice.

He’s a dynamic player and I really wish we would get him more involved with the short passing game. Or should I say quick passing game because he gets to 10 yards pretty quickly.

Couldn’t agree more. He’s underutilized in that role.

Sometimes you are just not on the same page with your QB for a game. The pass rush of Cleveland is no joke and when you have a QB who is all about timing and has to get off that timing it can make some plays he could make with Jamo look bad

The best thing Jamo does for this offense is run deeper routes and take 2 defenders with him. As long as he sells his routes when he is supposed to clear out I don’t care if he catches a pass. This isn’t fantasy football.

He makes around 1.3 million per reception. I’m a value shopper. I want better value.

No overreaction…just asking the question is all. If we are going to win it all we need a focused Jamo. Can’t have that type of game in the playoffs - From any player.

So winning football games doesn’t matter? Clearing out a safety so Laporta is open underneath.doesn’t matter? Blocking down on a LB so D-Mo or Gibbs can go 60 yards doesn’t matter? He takes a reverse 40 yards for a TD doesn’t matter? They fake a double reverse and Gibbs keeps it because the whole defense followed Jamo and Gibbs goes 40 for a TD doesn’t matter?

I know fans overreact. I do it myself sometimes, but Jamo’s conerns are legit. He’s had one solid season. That’s it. And the 1,000 yards was a gift. They forced it just to give it to him. Every other season was either really bad, or some gadget, or great speed plays like some runs or deep passes. Every speed player would get 80+ mil if that was the case.

Dont get me wrong I love Jamo. Guy has the best attitude and is a great teammate. You can see how upset he was with himself also. Last seasion was like night and day for him. I think the contract was premmature for sure, but I think he’ll bounce back.

At one point last year I ran the numbes and was surprised to learn that the Lions had been worse by every measure with Williams in the lineup than out (I didn’t include his rookie year which he essentially missed)

Record, scoring, yards. Even defensive numbers.

I didn’t consider it conclusive and got roasted by a couple of posters who can’t handle objectivity, but at least up to that point it was impossible to claim that he made a measurable difference in-game. Dunno, maybe they are better all around just having him in the facility, but I wouldn’t know how to measure that.

Jamo never looks like some rookie.

Jamo is a good player, and he’s important for his ability to take safeties deep. But for what we are paying him now.. he needs to get better at things like tracking and attacking the ball. These issues far often add to missed oportunities and sometimes turnovers, because he fails to attack the football and lets a defender make a play on it. He needs to be a more balanced player that doesn’t make big mistakes for his salary. Otherwise we could have just used a smaller amount assets an one of many speedsters who can help take the top off.. (Tutu Atwell, Rashid Shaheed, Tyquan Thornton, Tory Horton, Darius Slayton, etc)

It’s true that Jamo can get better at some of this stuff.
He was lacking in focus last outing, FOR SURE.

He’s one of those cats where it’s very important for him to manage his emotions. He needs to be more focused, more consistently. …like Ra. “Professionalism”. Part of it is not getting into your feelings - he looked like something was eating at him. Both in failure, and in success, his body language was very different in the Cleveland game.

I’ve been saying this since year one. Jamo is great at routes where’s he’s crossing or running towards the ball. He looks lost having to run under the ball and even the sideline catches he makes looks unnecessarily difficult.

Great deep ball receivers aren’t that bothered by the coverage, they can out body the defender high point the ball and snatch it out of the air

They don’t flail around like a Chinese plastic fish while trying to locate what is a perfect pass to the sideline shoulder

I was hoping to see Teslaa running more deep sideline routes. Let’s keep Jamo on deep slants, crossers or scheming him open

JG already took the blame for all but one drop.

He was stoned and looked like a rookie because of one drop?

Go watch JG’s post game presser. Then, we’ll continue the judgement fest.

That’s what JG does. That’s what leaders do. They take responsibility. There’s no world where Goff would say ‘I threw a perfect ball but Jamo dropped it’

He knows by taking the bullets it protects Jamo when Jamo might be having doubts and fosters more team morale and loyalty. The players know he has their back and is never going to throw them under the bus

Or, if it’s a real problem. Have him run 25 deep sideline routes with Allen everyday at practice.

Someone should bring all of this up to Dan. I’m not sure how he could overlook this, but apparently, he has.

I don’t doubt they have practiced this. Practice doesn’t always translate into performance.
