Jason hansen belongs in hof

Don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other, but if a RB or WR led the lead in yardage for three years they would likely be strongly considered for the HOF.

Let’s get Herman Moore on the damn ballot before we start bemoaning the fact that a kicker isn’t in the HOF. FYI Herman was on a podcast yesterday and admitted for the first time ever that he is pissed he isn’t even on the ballot.

You have 80-90 RB/WR that have been inducted and 2 pure kickers (Jan Stenarud and Morten Anderson). The criteria for WR/RB is clearly different.

I’d love to see Hansen get inducted, but for a K, you need to be a once in a generation talent (maybe greater) and unfortunately Hanson wasn’t. Viniteri - maybe, Tucker - definitely, maybe Elam/Vanderjagt (comparable), others (K isn’t a memorable position). The other thing is, Hansen never made an important kick (largely because he was on the Lions). Viniteri mad a lot of important kicks with meaningful games on the line.

I believe it’s pretty easy to rank him somewhere in the 7th to 10th range all time for kickers and as such is an all time great whether that is a hall of fame slot is more of a political thing or at least structural thing.

I think it’s a disservice to the game overall to not have the top 10 players at each position in the hall of fame For a league that’s been around for 100 years now

Great post! I appreciate the time you took putting it all together.
Hanson still belongs in the HOF.

And yet he offered more in his post than you did in yours.

Most of my post was devoted to complimenting him for taking the time to create a great post.
Now I have the facts, and, my opinion.

My bad I thought you were being snarky.

The article I linked has a lot to say on this subject. With re to kickers/punters…

“The only two players with a pair of all-decade honors not in Canton are kicking specialists – placekicker Gary Anderson and punter Sean Landeta, who made both the 1980s and 1990s all-decade teams.”

Hanson isn’t close.

SeaBass
Hansen
Elam
Tucker

Just as brackets, arrange as you will inside.

Prater
Gould are working their way close.

Eddie Murray still solid 20-25 all time.

I have to say I love Jason Hanson in an endearing kind of way. Grew up with him kicking for the Lions until well into adulthood. But I never saw him quite as a HOFer. Never crossed my mind. Even if they did let more kickers in. I mean I don’t even remember many, if any, All Pro nods. Or pro bowls. I think he was an upper tier kicker for a lot of his career but never the best.

He has a compiler + 1 long term standout subskill kind of candidacy.

I never thought Paul Molitor was a HOF player growing up…but you get to 1998, hes played 22 years, has 3300 hits and 500 steals and are like, yeah, I guess so.

Kickers are the best compilers too. I feel like Prater could kick to 60. Just put his beer down and go out there and make the kick.

And let the punter do the kickoffs.

All good. It’s understandable, since I frequently am, but, not this time.

see, you’re sticking too close to numbers. Jason changed the position.

before Hansen, people were fine with a 50% Mike Cofer kicker

Post Hanson, people wanted a quick-twitch bomber who was dangerous from every range.

This is a scientific fact and cannot be disputed
