Jaylen Waddle is Odell Beckham

I would rather take the polished route runner with great hands over the speedy body catcher.

Between those 3 WR in the draft, not ending up with one would be a mistake.

I understand that it’s hard for Lions fans to get excited about drafting a WR in the top 10 after the Millen years. That’s fair. The reality tho is that this team has a gaping hole at WR and there are 3 ridiculously talented WRs at the top of this draft. The need and talent actually align pretty well.

With that speed he may very well be gone before the Lions pick!

I’d be happy if he was the pick at 7

Sewell, Smith, Chase, Slater … that’s my list for #7.

While I really like the top 3 WR in this draft, I think this year we are better off and will have the opportunity to move down and stockpiling some picks. I also believe we’ll be able to pick up a WR later in the draft to replace Golladay. I did a mock the other day (used Drafttek as reference guide) and traded down with NE for their 2nd and 6th (they moved up for QB), then traded down again with Jax for their 3rd and flipping our 2nd for their 2nd (they moved up for OT). So we had #25, 33, 46, 65, 72, 88 in the 1st 3 rounds. Picked Najee Harris RB, Zaven Collins LB, Jalen Mayfield RT, Jayson Oweh Edge, kadarius Toney WR, Levi Onwuzirike 3T, 4th rd. D’wayne EskridgeWR, 5th rd. Ambry Thomas CB, 6th rd. Nico Collins WR. Used Drafttek, and selected players that were available after Lions picks. Pipe Dream, but I liked the idea of trading down and grabbing extra picks. A familiarity with UM players led to those selections, familiarity.

3 WR - 1 solid route runner, 1 shifty speed guy, 1 - tall jump ball specialist with great hands.

RT and a RB - final piece of the backfield, perfect compliment to Swift.

3T for when Hand gets injured
Edge with mad speed and good size and length.
LB with size, speed and cover skills
CB that has good size, speed and is intelligent, needs coaching

That would be a great draft but I doubt Mayfield makes it out of the first.

At 5’11” 200 LBs, Beckham is built stocky, almost RB-like, and virtually identical to Golden Tate.

Assuming the numbers aren’t inflated, Jaylen Waddle is 5’10” 183 lbs. Waddle looks and plays faster than Beckham. More like Tyreek Hill.

Think that really only applies to their QBs. It’s hard to really (accurately) evaluate them. They put up gaudy numbers but when you are playing college teams with all pro NFL talent it skews the results.

Its hard to evaluate RBs on powerhouse teams as well.

I see TY Hilton all day…

I’m not seeing OBJ as much I see Brandin Cooks or Tyreek (as high upside).

Yup. I want playmakers too. With what @wesleysh21 pointed out about YACs, in relation to JG’s passing style, in conjunction with more space (either immediately or eventually) from a run game, this dude could be a really good fit.

I want a top tier RB to help Swift, as well. I don’t even trust KJ as a backup (because of health). I’d love to have 3 guys that could blow the lid off of it, on O.

Not sure if t can happen, because of cap, but I’d love to bring back Jones, to have something like this on O
Jones
Swift
Waddle
New Smashmouth/Speed RB dude
Hock

People that can make you pay.

It depends. I’d take the #2 target on Bama’s team watching him blow by SEC Secondaries from all over the field over WMU’s #1 target. Just sayin…

I’m sticking the flag in the ground. Jaylen Waddle is the #1 non-QB playmaker in this draft and if he is there at 7, I’m fine taking him there. Would love for a Fields or Lance to be there and for us to pick the pockets of say Carolina and get Waddle and a high 2nd. Do I have Jim Schwartz level love for JW? YES!

I’m with you. If we go receiver, Waddle’s the guy I want. He’s got the one trait that’s deserving of a high pick, his blazing speed. And unlike Ruggs, he’s an actual receiver. Don’t get me wrong I’d take Smith if Waddle was already gone, but I prefer Waddle.

Also before he was hurt, he and Smith were basically both #1 targets for Alabama. In fact Waddle got off to the hotter start. Who knows how their respective seasons would have gone had he stayed healthy.

I’m perplexed by the Waddle over Smith talk. I’d take Smith.

Waddle is more explosive, faster, quicker in and out of breaks and has a better build to take on the rigors of the NFL. I like Smith. I like Waddle a little better as a playmaking slot receiver.

In my opinion, he has 5 top level traits.

Blazing Speed (He claims high 4.2s to low 4.3s)
Outstanding hands
Elusiveness
Toughness (Limped around the field in the Nat. Championship)
Played against the best DB competition at the FBS level (SEC)

Well, yeah, but the other guys (Chase and Smith) have all that other stuff too. It’s the speed that sets Waddle apart.

Before Waddle got hurt, he looked like the guy most likely to win the Heisman. Smith really blew up once he was no longer competing with Waddle for targets. And I really, really like Smith too, I just like Waddle better.
