I think Agnew in the role of GM would be an excellent example of the Peter Prinicple. I’ll grant that he excels at player evaluations, but there’s so much more to being GM and my totally unfair impression is that he would lag in fluid situations like draft day, FA signings, PR and contract negotiations.
I do think he should jump at any GM opportunity because the next one could be his last as @MittenSportsFan said. I just don’t think he’ll get an offer.
I think his ability to be a GM is greater than his ability to land a GM job. I think there are alot of GMs who aren’t actually that great at what they do. They just present themselves well and owner’s like that. So if Ray gets a GM gig, I think it will be because he is attached to a specific coach that is leaving the Lions and puts him in place. I don’t think he will get much consideration outside of that.
Mitch was naturally funny… There’s a comedian that tells a real life interaction between Mitch and a hotel employee… Mitch was trying to pay in cash and they would only take a card. “But this is money, this is what that card represents” then goes on to make a hilarious comparison.
Edit… Here ya go
Sam Morril is one of my favorite comics right now… Theo Von is good… Shane Gillis… Tony Hingecliff
Nor do I think he wants to be a GM. Some guys are comfortable in certain roles. If Brad Holmes was to leave Detroit, do you know is assistant GM would be in the next role, yes, Ray Agnew. Folks need to stop trying to push guys out the door.
