Juice Scruggs

Take PFF grades with a grain of salt but what you are saying definitely isn’t aligning with their grades.

Absolutely I have no problem with this . Young highly regarded prospect with success at position of need. With some early success.

Agree on the draft thing; if he is a “3rd rounder “ and you are drafting late 2nd and you want him that’s where you gotta take him.

I like Juice a lot. Starter in 2021. Started 13 games at center for Penn State in 2022. Team captain that season. Fought through adversity in 2019 after a car accident. 26 years old, last year of his deal. Experience as a starter.

I feel like the Texans have not developed guys well overall on offense. My guess is Juice is very happy to be away from the Texans. He feels like a fringe okay starter or an excellent interior back up. Guy likely makes the roster. That is a lot to like.

One of the best skits ever…. that lasts a little too long. “You think this bit is lasting a little too long eh…”

I don’t see any similarity. Manu has a ceiling of pro bowl OT and a floor of a WWE wrestler on friday night smackdown. The range on Juice would be much tighter.

I agree 100%

And I really appreciate your “range” on Manu because that is how I see him also. While after some research I think Juice as a fringe Pro Bowl at his very best and a depth piece that you can play.

looks explosive but not fast with no lateral agility. Put him in a phone booth.

So he is a Center and not a Guard really. And likely better on Double team blocks rather than zone blocking.

better on oduble teams and man blocking. but we expect movement from our centers. looks like still another guy who may be better at RG, if that’s out power side.

That’s how I see him. He’s a Center. He strong. But he doesn’t move people. At the same time, he doesn’t get moved back. His problem is on stunts and DL shooting gaps and crossing his face. He doesn’t have the athleticism to cut the DL off and still make his block.

At Guard, though he filled in admirably, you gotta be able to pull and pin and be athletic enough to pick up stunts, etc. Juice is below average IMO doing those. But, he’s another year removed from the car accident. That may make him a lot better.

But without a doubt, he’s a Center with some Guard ability.

That’s nice, when possible, but the scheme needs to adapt to the personnel.

If we don’t have a Ragnow-level center, plan around having a normal one.

I just wanna know how he fits. A lot of people going on and on. But we like our Lineman to hit the second level, people that are talking about him starting and great back up , are we changing what we do ? Because hitting the 2nd level is not what he does well from what I read.

He will be insurance. GG didn’t hit the 2nd level well either, but as a backup (which imo is where we wanted him last year) would have been fine. IF Scruggs can reach that level, including him in the trade would be a win.

But no, he won’t get to the 2nd level and it will hurt the offense when he’s in, but that’s true of all backups. And for instance Kingsley COULD hit the second level - it was one of his best attributes - but other weaknesses in his game kept him from being an overall plus for us. Namely, that he just couldn’t keep powerful dudes away from Goff. Scruggs, at least, should be OK handling that part of it.

Good post That’s, and true that was one reason I hated GG starting he couldn’t do what we needed and was always the weakest link because of it.

correct…he can prove his worth by labor day.

we don’t know who else BH is eyeing to cut and in turn draft at position?

Hank can bring out his best. He’s getting here at the perfect time in his career, too. He’s just getting his “Man” strength.

I’m sorry, everytime I hear the name Juice Scruggs, I start thinking old school Hank Williams.

This is my first thought when I hear Scruggs.
