Kendall Fuller released

That and…

Murphy - way too expensive and you’re literally buying the top
Samuel - zone corner through and through
Fulton - many seem to think improved play was due to being in a zone heavy scheme
Yiadom - me likely as a Vidlor replacement bc he’s been a great gunner. I like this one as CB5 but he can’t be a starter solution
Wilson - hasn’t he been a bust?
Reed - good player but man we’d be small at CB if both Amik and Reed are primary options

Honestly, outside of Davis or going after a nickel, I’m not all that thrilled with the options available to us.

If Adebo is too damn expensive then I agree.

To me if it’s not Davis it’s:

Adebo
And/Or
Brown or Hobbs at nickel w/ Amik outside
And/Or
Draft

Plus depth pieces.

Pretty much exactly how I feel, though your 1st and 2nd options are really 1a and 1b for me.

Honestly if we lose Davis, we might just be looking at a kick-the-can sort of year. Hopefully Brad can pop another FA like Amik.

Lions need to sign a vet de and cb in the off season . Then draft BAP in the draft.

Agreed fill holes in free agency and then draft some more hungry young guys that love football.

I know I was late to the party but I really think AzT is a bump and run/press man savant. The more I watch him, what I’m most impressed by is his ability to marry opposing dispositions depending on the stage of the rep. What I mean by that is he’ll guys up at the line of scrimmage but he’s actually fairly careful and discerning at the catch point. Just seems to be a cool cucumber when the ball is in the air.

If we play like last year I think hems ready to roll, with the on caveat being how he handles the communicative imperative to pass of bunch and stack based man beaters. And opposing offenses are of course going to live and die with that approach so that is admittedly a sizable if.

I’d be excited to grab him at 28 though I get that most would find that a less than desirable outcome.

That is of course if a trade back or surprising slide doesn’t present a no-brainer.

You saw on that mock summary where someone had us taking him at 28, right?

He’s one of my favorite options for that spot, and yes, probably ahead of Revel now due to age (if Revel was 22 or younger he’d be in my top 10, personally).

So obviously I agree on Thomas, been calling him the best press corner in the class for a while now and that feeling hasn’t changed any. And I agree, he stays in phase post-press as well as anyone in the class, and there’s no panic in his game. He’s also one of the few guys I like in this class (which surprises me based on where I was last summer), so if we decide to go draft to shore up CB, he’s one of the few options for me at least.

I honestly thought he wouldn’t be enough of a playmaker for you, though I think it’s possible that’s just a sample size issue. He has the calmness and the eyes to be a playmaker, so hopefully it’s more like Ramsey or Gonzalez pre-final-year where he just didn’t get a lot of opportunities.

CD3 isn’t a playmaker either. Neither is Will Lee III who I liked quite a bit. I’d like TA to develop into that guy. And I think it works best with a Nnamdi on one side providing lower risk, high reward gambling opportunities for the other playmakers. Add that press man gnat and find a live wire of a WILL with the range to change the math on the third level and that would be my ideal coverage setup.

Although I highly doubt our willingness to play that small.

Yeah if anything we seem to lean the opposite way. Hey get us at least a faster WILL and I’m happy.

Doubt he signs here. Some team will be willing to overpay. I don’t see Holmes willing to do that.

Teddye will do just fine. He better not become a Teddye Bear!

Yep yep. Maybe not the coverage stud a S like Winston would be, but still pretty damn good. And he’ll make a lot more plays in the backfield.

I agree that the haircut was an unfortunate development.

His stock takes a haircut on account of the haircut.

Not many seem to have much confidence in a 2nd rd CB with a year on NFL experience in the Lions defense.
I like Adebo at the right price, but I think a bridge or back-stop CB can work as well to support TA, Amik and Rake.
I think Slay will be released ($16M option and won’t factor into the compensation formula) as well as dependable vets like Gilmore.
I’m pretty sure Holmes will select a DB, but likely a day #3 developmental player.
I really like AzT, but I feel 28 would be too high. If he is there at 60 I’d consider him based on other players still on the board.

How Holmes handles free agency will let us know what the team feels about Rake.
Obviously if they bring back CD3 or sign a CB for starter money then they don’t feel he is ready.

I have little confidence in Ennis staying healthy.

Should worry some positions hit a wall at 30 an yes there are exceptions i am not into paying millions for maybe a exception

It’s a valid concern for sure.

That should be the plan though

Fuller as a veteran depth guy to replace Moseley just upgrades the unit that’s all

Right on Jman. Arnols, Rakestraw, Amik and Fuller is a legit, balanced AND affordable position group.

WR isn’t the only position where you can look for value. Dollar per dollar Amik was a better and more important player than Carlton Davis and we have Amik for another season.

Kendall was the #8 CB coming into 2024:
“Fuller has been excellent for several years now, putting up an 85.0 grade over the last two seasons and preventing separation at a very high level. While he won’t wow on the stat sheet with gaudy interception or forced incompletion numbers, he’s as reliable as they come when it comes to making tackles and being sticky in coverage.”
PFF 2024 CBs

Fuller had multiple concussions and injuries that marred his time with the Dolphins. Kendall just turned 30 and going after him signals to Davis that his negotiations over. Tricky situation there.
