The Red uni’s probably were when The Detroit Lions, were The Portsmouth Spartans in 1924.

Love history and it’s hidden surprises…

From 1934-48, the look was understandably simple: Blue jersey, silver number, silver pants, blue socks, black shoes, silver (leather) helmets. The uniforms got their first drastic overhaul in 1948 when incoming coach Bo McMillin brought the red, white and black colors with him from Indiana University. He remained with the franchise through 1950 and the red was completely gone by the start of the 1951 season.
