It’s a meritocracy and DPJ & Green are going to have to step it up.
And when Johnson started running through the candidates for the position, yep, he listed Fountain first.
“(Fountain) has certainly come on so far in training camp,” Johnson said. “His physicality, his explosiveness has shown up.”
At this point, you might be asking yourself, how?
How does a guy like that, who caught two passes in seven years – who spent all last season on the practice squad – how does a guy like that play his way into consideration for a starting job for one of the best offenses in football?
“Health,” Fountain said. “Health is the main thing.”
A fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, Fountain has spent the near-duration of his career dealing with injuries and rehabs. That includes shattering and dislocating his left ankle during a joint practice heading into Year 2. He required three surgeries to repair the injury, and a guy who looked like he was playing his way into Indy’s rotation was suddenly being told he might never play again at all.
“Literally was told that I was possibly going to have to medically retire,” Fountain said. “ … It broke my heart, you know? It was scary. It was frightening.”
Fountain eventually returned to the field a year later, but continued to experience severe pain in his leg. Turns out, a subsequent MRI revealed his tibia was still fractured.
So he got bad medical care, too.
My grandma also got SNAP(s) after retirement. Used them to buy prune juice and oatmeal.
Wow, I’m pulling for this guy. Hope he can stay healthy.
