We have elite of elite starting tackle duo
We have a developmental stud LT Manu
That’s as good as it gets in the NFL.
Skipper can slide to RT if need be and if it’s LT Sewell bumps to left .
Our depth is amazing
We are 10 deep loaded OL

Remember he was a OT in highschool and college and they converted him to guard last season. So his natural style is tackle.
He may do better. But yes HUGE shoes to fill with 2 all pros they have now. So definitely hard to find ANYONE to come even close to that level.
To be honest… that would worry me. He has 0 career starts at right tackle. Although you could use a tight end out there to his side a bunch to help him.
Here’s my thing with OT. If Decker gets hurt, we:
Move Penei to Left. Sandwich our RT between a high end pass blocker in Zeitler and some TE and we can probably make that workable.
We lose Penei we’re screwed. BC he’s Penei.
Thats definitely the plan so far.
But lets hope Sordal steps up. And knock on wood they stay healthy
Heese & Block Right are pretty decent blocking TEs
They could help get the job done and not affect Laporta
We know the starters the back up OGs will likely be Mahogany OT will be Sorsdal Skinner an
Manu That’s 9 I think they will load up PS with at least another OG an 2 OTs.
Skinner can play OG an OT. So can Sorsdal The rookie will work out both OGs
If they keep 10 who will it be watch at who they workout at center. Not sure who got work at center during OTAs . Just my guess’s I think there is no ceiling left for Awosika but he played ok last season at OT an OG. Skinner gives same watch for Muti he showed well in OTAs an has started in NFl.

I agree completely.
C 1 Rags, 2 Glasgow…… PS
OG 1Zitler, 2 Glassgow, 3Mahongany, 4 Sorsdol, 5 Skipper 6 Manu …. PS
OT 1 Sewell 2 Decker 3 Sorsdal, 4 Skipper …… Ps
The 10th will definitely be a Center i would think. If they bring in another OT from cut downs they will replace Skipper.
Based on what we heard at OTA(they go like half speed so take it with a grain of salt)
They have a plethora of centers to choose from.
I agree with those 9 making the roster.
Manu’s progression this summer could change that, though. Skipper has been in the NFL for going on his 8th year. There’s a lot of experience there that will appeal to the coaches for sure. However, if Manu shows an ability to be the 6th OL on those snaps that Skipper has been getting, then he (Skipper) might be replaced by a Galvin or Yode.
If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on the 9 you named, but there’s a chance for a little shake-up.
@DBend144 There is no 10th.
Remember he was a OT in highschool and college and they converted him to guard last season.
Oh I’m aware, but that’s a tale as old as time. Most NFL interior OL played OT in high school, and about half were OTs in college. Teams put their best linemen at OT (especially smaller schools like William and Mary), but that doesn’t mean their best pro positions will be OT. Personally I think Sorsdal’s best position long-term is center, but I doubt we’ll see that any time soon.
Just one more comment on the # of OL.
In 2017, Taylor Decker began the season on PUP. In his absence, the Lions had Greg Robinson and Corey Robinson as backups. After the cut to 53, Quinn claimed 2 more linemen (Kerin and Mahalik) and waived Brandon Thomas.
That’s the only year we’ve had 10 OL at Week 1 in the 15 years I’ve tracked it. All other years have been 8 or 9.
Oh i agree.
Looking back at the weekly rosters during the Holmes era. The ONLY time they EVER carried 10 OL during the season was due to injuries. So if all OL are healthy they will carry 9.
So if they (and i think they will) pick up someone after 53 man cuts.
Skipper gone and whoever they pick up will be the 9OL
I think those 6th lineman snaps are pretty important to the team’s identity. You’re not getting those from a waiver-claim. Skipper knows our playbook and if anyone’s going to bump him, it’s gonna have to be Manu, IMO.
I understand the desire to enhance the OT depth from a ceiling/talent perspective, but I really think they’re going to value the versatility and ability to contribute on the on offense. Plus, Manu IS the ceiling/talent player.
I personally believe Manu, like Martin last year, just won’t be ready to contribute much this season. That’s not a knock, I’ve believed that since we drafted him, but I would be very surprised (pleasantly) if he was ready to contribute appreciably.
I have high hopes that he can be a jumbo TE in a few packages as a Rookie. Perhaps that’s just me wanting the hilarious aesthetics of such a setup.
Just for context.
Of the1379 offensive snaps,
Skipper was in 101 of them for a “TE”
Or 7.3% of snaps. Thats not nothing.
And i agree. manu wil be a healthy scratch 15+ weeks

New ST rules favors athletic lineman
10 is a real possibility based off rule changes and roster talent in that position.
Manu on ST and jumbo TE
Love it
It may come at the expense of a 4th TE but I’m good with that.
Hesse and Zylstra should sneak to the PS
I heard at OTA/ Mitchell looked HORRIBLE vs Zylsta and Hesse. But again no contact.
I think they will only carry 3 TE anyway. But well see.
I have 50 mandatory spots so 3 extra spots as options.
2QB
4 RB
5 WR
3 TE
9 OL
10 DL
5 LB
9 DB
3 ST
so where those 3 last spots will be are largly based on what they want for the new KIck offs
Wouldn’t surprise me if Mitchell got beat out for TE3 by Hesse
But , I prefer a pass catcher there as we have jumbo OL for extra blockers
