Lions hire ex-Dolphins GM Chris Grier as a personnel executive

Dan Campbell was never even on my radar. Wanted Saleh.

Much ado about nothing.

This is not correct. You get beans if any minority person from your organization gets hired to be the chief football personnel officer at another team. Usually that means GM, but some teams like the Falcons have someone over the GM that is truly the lead dog. If another team hired a black Lions scout as their chief football personnel executive we would get beans (as long as that person was with us for at least 2 years)

Something seems very odd with that

This, I think

It does seem odd. It seems as odd as having minimal black coaches for years despite majority black players. An unbalanced solution to an unbalanced problem. This is dangerously close to a political thread so I will take it back a notch.

Objectively based on numbers alone it is a solution that has resulted in an increase in black coaches and GMs. That’s as far as I want to stick my hand in this hornets nest.

I mean why only get compensatory picks for hiring minorities but not whites?? If you hire a female as a GM or other executive role do you get comp picks too?? Or am I totally misunderstanding??

Personally I think a female could make the argument as an unrepresented minority.

To address about why not giving picks for white candidates, I believe the incentive was to promote qualified black coaches to top tier positions. Again objectively it seems unlikely to me that in the prior decades there were only 1 or 2 qualified black coaches when many of the coaches were former players or coordinators.

I am going to duck off this topic @Richard_Parker. I like to avoid the drama and get down to some Lions victories. One of these days we will have Lions related topics. Maybe after June cuts. Until then, only temptation to get banned.

Picks for coaches/executives has to be my least favorite topic on this board. I most definitely don’t view it the same as others, and I’m confident 20 years from now no one will.

That said I like the Grier hire. I hope he does great things for this organization before getting another opportunity to pursue his dream.
