Lions Pre-Draft Interview Thread

Yeah, coming in too hot. A lot. I also don’t think he has the best instincts, which matter a lot for me at LB. There are others I like a lot more as WLB options. Schwesinger, Buchanan, Martin, etc…

Yeah, we need to concentrate on DL. Although I suppose SAM is technically an EDGE for us on passing downs.

They never seem to pressed to fill that DE hole opposite Hutch. Even last year it was just Davenport, who they basically took a health flyer on. Before that Commish with the hope Paschal breaks.

So…maybe they take SAM and WILL like 2nd and 3rd? I can’t see them takiing Campbell so high, he’ll take a first probably. Then throw in OG needs to, so yeah it seems rich for them to take both that high although you know when it comes down to it Brad will just take who he likes best.

See I think they would have gladly filled it if an option they liked had been available in the draft, that’s just not how the board fell (though I think they hoped Paschal would be that guy also). We had the same conversation last year about CB… it’s not like he wouldn’t fill it if the right guy was there - word is we were all over Witherspoon the year before and he got sniped by Seattle - just that he’s not gonna reach for a specific spot if he doesn’t love the guy.

I want Commish and Davenport back on the cheap. We need to add more but I think we may lean into guys we trust (Commish) in particular more than some are thinking. I’m talking very little $ of course. And we’ll add new blood for sure. We’ll address it both ways IMO.

Surprised theres not more dt’s on the list above.

He would be a PERFECT Will for us.

Or anybody really…dude can move…

Well, you’re in luck. Kenneth Grant was just added to the list.

Good player, but I’m so glad that Witherspoon was picked just before us. That trade launched into the upper echelon. What a great draft.

You make a fair point. I’m not sure if its just not a huge priority, or if its about players. Probably players. Still they certainly scraped the barrel trying to fill the hole. It would have been interesting to see what they would have done if Chop Robinson or Jared Verse were still on the board when they traded up.

My hunch is he preferred Arnold to both of them, though Verse might have been close. I don’t think Chop is physically the type we’re looking for.

Can anyone clarify what the difference between a formal and informal draft visit is? I feel like I haven’t seen a difference before.

You get 30 formal interviews at the combine where they come into the room, sit down at the board, get peppered with questions. Like Gibbs and Campbell in Inside the Den. Those are formal.

Informal is our scouts/Brad/etc… bumping into them in the halls/take them to dinner, etc… Someone would have to witness this happening for it to be reported. I suspect there’s a lot more of this type than we’ll ever know.

I think Barnes is jetting away…toward the East. Some newly minted head coach may want Barnes to help establish culture in addition to his apparent upward arc.

There is a history of not paying visible attention to prospects and still drafting them. If you’re confident in what you see and what your sources say, feints like that could have the effect of dissuading teams to trade up in front of you, I’d think. So I won’t be at all concerned when the Lions pay Jordan Phillips zero attention in the draft process. :cowboy_hat_face: :cowboy_hat_face: :cowboy_hat_face:

Barns do belong in meadow lands.

I recall years where the Lions drafted a player while not Having a combine interview. Draft hints are as secretive as the nuclear launch codes.

We need pass rushers so makes sense.

Not. 1. Single. Offensive. Player.

Brad sucks. We are gonna lose. No wide receivers AGAIN. I’m so done with this team.

(I see what I did there…)

Haha nice catch. Didn’t notice that. We really don’t have many openings on offense though.

Especially if they brick back Zeitler. He’s the only starter not under contract for next season. Everyone else is back.
