Seems Roehl is getting to influence some of the visits with multiple NDSU visits on the docket.
Oh? Youāve heard something? I know we met with Mason Miller at the Hula Bowl but havenāt heard any others. Would be surprised if Zabel wasnāt in there somewhere.
No, I just saw those two on the list at the top. Iām way behind on this thread
Iāve watched a few Deone Walker videos, and I see what the Lions like about him. This guy may be the same size as BroMart, but he plays a world different. Walker has agility, balance, and makes a lot of plays in the backfield. I am still leery of guys that tall playing the interior, but he did it well and against premium competition including UGA and Texas.
His ability to move around at that size is crazy. UK was putting him out at DE (!) on 3-4 fronts and letting him rush the passer, and he was chasing down mobile QBās like Rattler. Thatās insane. Basically, this guy would be what the Lions wanted BroMart to be. If we got him, BroMart would be gone and Walker would be the guy to spell Reader through the year, then take over next year.
Walker spent more time in backfields in these 2 clips than BroMart has spent in his life.
Heās an utter freak, one of our favorite guys coming into the season over on the crush thread.
But he really, really struggled. And now wordās come out that he almost quit the game and only stuck with it once he learned how much money he could make. Itās pretty easy to question his work ethic since he never lost that fat roll heās been carrying his whole career, if he did he could have vaulted into the top 10.
I wouldnāt take our āmeetingā with him to heart. Heās a local Detroit kid, and it was at his pro day. And we often meet with guys with some sort of issue, like we did Jalen Carter and Michael Hall (and those were legit top 30 visits).
Heās never going to be a NT of any worth. There are scenarios in which heās a high end 3T or in particular a Stephon Tuitt like monster (for that brief while) at 5T.
His height is distributed differently than BroMartās.
Walkerās torso is tall while his legs/waist are less tall.
BroMart is different. His legs/waist is higher with a shorter back.
Neither are perfectly proportional (legs to torso).
In the end, the height of BroMartās waist is working against him. While he may look more proportional than Walker, heās on the wrong side of the equation.
Walkerās waist seems to land where the waist of a 6ā 2" personās would, yet heās 6ā7". Heās much more apt to maintain leverage (pad level) by virtue of his build.
And yet, itās one of his weakest areas on tape.
Not surprising, given his size and build.
But itās even less surprising when a long-legged 6ā 7" dude canāt do it.
I think for both of them they have to develop some serious handwork to take advantage of their reach. If neither are ideally built for taking on double-teams, they need to be aggressive and violent with their hands to make something out of the gifts they do have.
@BubbaBaker-60 @CuriousHusker have you watched this guy? Iāve only had a cursory look but he looks really good. Especially if these numbers turn out to be true:
Also shows up really well here (and check out Winston). Mickens is probably underrated too, and Iāve lined up some Will Brooks to watch today, but his profileās pretty wonky.
Nope. Watched the tail end of their Notre Dam upset but thatās it as far as NIU. Donāt remember him.
He seems to be someone weāre interested in and at least at first glance, quite the playmaker (especially as a blitzer). He feels like someone youāre gonna like.
I have only seen clips and highlights. Looks like an over the top safety with some ball skills and you can see his recovery speed when he is beat deep.
That chart you posted has to be one of the most accurate that I have ever seen. It reveals almost to a tee with what I saw on tape with players I watched enough to form an opinion.
There were a couple on there that surprised me. Kyle Dugger so poor in run support (though itās not like it was easy to watch Lenoir-Rhyne tape). Jessie Bates average against the pass. But yeah, it really lines up overall which is what I found so interesting. Also that it confirms my priors about Winston
I am not a fan of PFF metrics and I am a watch the tape guy. When I saw Bowman and Crawford on one side and Winston and Wohler on the other extreme I immediately understood the chart. No tackle and tackle. Then Ransaw no cover and Watts cover. I guess I just like this one because it agrees with what I saw on tape.
I agree with most of those, though I think Crawford improved this past year at Nevada as a tackler. He absolutely has to stop going for kill shots though. Still the desire is there, I think it can be shored up. Itās his work in coverage that gives me more pause and why I donāt think heās worth more than a punt on day 3 (great special teams player though).
I also like that it confirms what I saw from Shamari Simmons though. Itās a nice simplified chart and seems to be pretty well correlated to future success, though Landon Collins certainly wasnāt the stud this chart made him look like he was.
I was rowing in the same boat as the chart on Collins. I thought he was a real stud.
Itās tricky with guys at real blue blood schools. On the one hand we know theyāve got the pedigree and likely the traits, on the other how much easier was their job because of all the talent around them? Age old question when evaluating these guys, which is why you have as many flame-outs as good/great players enter the league from these programs.
