Lions Select Slot WR Kendrick Law Kentucky #168

The only one he didn’t trade up for was Saint

Wow. I knew nothing about this Kendrick Law but he looks like a gem.

Blocking WR, returner, looks like a RB when he catches the ball . Can learn from Dorch.

I’m excited for him as our WR4 soon

Damn skippy it was.

Wanting to level DBs at every opportunity seems to be a requirement to be a Lions WR.

Me likey.

In a way he kind of did. We had pick 112 and Brad traded up to get us pick 113 (back-to-back picks). He turned the cards in ARSB (112) and Barnes (113) but said after the draft that it wasn’t a calculated decision. He just knew he wanted both players so he made a move to be sure he got them. So the Barnes pick at 113 that we traded up for could have easily been ARSB with Barnes going at 112.

So Law was the only guy we drafted I hadn’t really deep-dived yet (I foolishly deemphasized receiver), and after further review I think I’m more excited by him than anyone else.

He’s got that stand-up-and-take-notice gear where he just flies by guys. And in the SEC. Like Norris says below, he just moves different. He hits top speed faster than everyone else and stays there longer, and we’ve already mentioned the blocking.

And while the route tree is more of a shrub now (I think 98% of his yardage is YAC or something crazy like that), he actually has some legit skills at the top of his route, when breaking, etc… He needs to learn to vary his speeds, but I think there’s more of a potential ceiling here than anyone thought.

On a positive note, this is the single best position Brad is at scouting.

This is what I noticed.

He absolutely won’t look out of place on the fast track at Ford Field. Another playmaker who is explosive with the ball in his hands.

Yeah that one he houses down the sideline, hoo boy. That sort of acceleration will play. With Jamo leaning a defense one way, hit them with Law or Gibbs going the other… Frankly I’m not seeing a way we can be stopped. All those defenses getting cute with all their convolution are playing a dangerous game. One wrong step and as long as Goff reads it right - and he does more often than not - and it’s curtains.

I have only watched highlights, but there were 2 or 3 deeper shots that he caught. I couldn’t help to wonder if he will end tracking deep passes better than Jamo.

Me ght have to dial up a few double posts with those two guys.

Another plus is he can have some of those plays we run to Gibbs, which are kind of dangerous for a player of his value. He’s got a shot at offensive MVP but I want him healthy for the playoffs and some of those short passes can be a setup for a nasty hit if it’s keyed on.

Yeah, excellent point. The Gibbs stunt double for the more dangerous shots.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all, but then again Jamo is kind of shit at that lol. Easily his worst skill, the man clearly never played baseball. We need to run him on those a few times a game so they won’t crowd the crossers, but maybe now Law can substitute on a couple of the deep shots as well.

Hmm, something looks familiar, I can’t quite put my finger on it. @HSVLion you’ve been there, help me out.

Punt returner, bubble screen and reverses, quick hits over the middle.

Dude screams Kalif replacement. Maybe not year 1, as that’s Dortch. But year 2 on. I love these highlights.

“Cole Cubelic, who covers the SEC, called (Kendrick Law) ‘The best run blocking wide receiver since Hines Ward.’”

And there you have it.
