Lions Select Slot WR Kendrick Law Kentucky #168

For sure. :100:

When I made my post above about shorter receivers that were able to play outside, I purposely left out Steve Smith, Antonio Brown, and Tyreek Hill.

They all have ridiculous ball skills and superior route running ability that are very rare talents. All of them have HOF careers in terms of production. I included some other very good WRs in my post for examples, but didn’t want to go as far as those 3 guys.

This, plus the blocking skills, really make it seem like this kid has the ā€œwant-toā€.

If that’s true, he’s going into the perfect situation. ARSB is the pinnacle of the type of craftsmanship that Law will need to develop to be be a good pro. I don’t know if there is a better potential mentor/ role model in the league for him.

Alll that and he was drafted by Bradley Holmes which puts him in the same group as Kupp, Saint, Jamo, Teslaa

Guys who have never been in my kitchen?

Those aren’t guys

Them are Dawgs

This pick is growing on me.

I hate that being an awesome blocker is resonating, but it is.

I like how his skills blend with our WR room. ARSB, JAMO, Teslaa, and Law have distinct skill sets but all bring something different.

I initially saw him as a special teams player. I still think that will be a part of his role, but I see him getting a limited number of snaps with the O.

He just has to play his way onto the team. I think he will.

I think they’ll use him as the motion guy to move the D around and stick to screens and handoffs, Deebo light.

Yes the blocking thing is huge, especially since Leaf was asked to do a lot of that.

My initial reaction was Dortch 2.0 ( compliment I’m a fan of Dortch) but bigger and better.

Even if Law doesn’t do much the first year or two, he will eventually get his chance

If this guy takes just a few carries a game, I wonder if this may mitigate back up RB just a little more.

I like the thought, but we already have 1 young unproven cross over at RB in Vaki.

Let’s see what we have in him for the next 2 years while Law develops behind Dortch

Without reading reports or hearing anything about Law, I was immediately reminded of Deebo Samuel. Not sure he has the receiving chops, but his running style on jet sweeps and screens gives me those vibes

…and Brad was rumored to be sniffing around when Deebo was available a few years ago.

Kids today will never understand what its like to have someone like Cliff in the group…with NO ability to jump on a cell phone to fact check him.

he’s got that video game change of direction. Reminds me of Brandon Cooks coming out of college

I knew nothing about this guy, so I watched some highlight videos. what jumped out to me is he can: get YAC, he’s got juke moves, he can get by defenders with getting thin and moving, he seems to have reliable hands, He can go up and get the high ball, he can switch directions immediately, I think Goff is going to love this guy. I think we’re going to play him early, just hope he can stay healthy.

Fees like a baller pick to me. Underused in college. Can play multiple positions including lining up in the backfield. Special team player. Blocker. Underused playmaker.

Dortch depth, St. Brown depth, 3rd down passing back? Returner? Baller. Good football player.

I heard in the post pick interviews that BH saw him at Alabama, noting that he ā€œjust moves differentlyā€ so he was pleasantly surprised when he popped up again while scouting Kentucky and realized it was a guy that already caught his eye once before.

I read that he is unique in that he doesn’t lose speed when changing direction like other WR do, he gets up to his top gear quicker, some would call it an ā€œuncannyā€ ability to do certain WR things well. He knew we had a unicorn that we had to move up and get in round 5, I guess.
