I don’t see him as a needle mover either, but it’s better than rolling out there with whoever we had against KC minus Amik. His experience, knowing coverages and where to be/communicate, is critical, even if he has lost a step. I don’t believe anyone views him above TA/Reed/Maddox, but he’s a decent option given our depleted secondary.
Only had PFF scores under 70 twice in his career. Last year it was 66 plus. Not amazing but a seasoned vet that performs at that level will certainly bolster our depleted secondary.
I think he’s better than Maddox. They both provide flexibility, though. Fuller can play inside or outside as well. And is a dog when it comes to getting dirty in the run game.
What if I told you PFF grades are all trash? I don’t look at made up numbers to judge a player. The entire NFL player base and coaches hate those PFF grades. Fans and media are the only ones who take them seriously. Now the NFL does purchase other information from PFF databases, but these numerical grades are for public consumption only.
It is. Don’t listen to anyone who says it isn’t. Fuller had a rough year last year with concussions and a knee injury and still was pretty decent. Before that he was one of the better CBs in football. He’s getting older, but he is a really good football player who has had plenty of time to rest up. This is probably the best move Brad could’ve made outside of trading for someone.
I don’t think people know how good Fuller is, honestly. Dude is an incredible DB and he does it all. Outside, inside, willingness to play run defense, solid tackler. There is a little concern about his injuries last year - multiple concussions are never great and he is aging, but this guy was one of the leagues better corners from 2017 on.
If you don’t like PFF, of which there are many supporting stats, here’s another one. PFR assigns an AV (approximate value) which you can read more about here if you want Approximate Value | Pro-Football-Reference.com. Now compare Fuller’s to someone like DJ Reed…
Look, I’m not saying he’s a bad player. Never said that.
I’m saying to level your expectations, because everyone here seems to think we just signed a pro bowl CB.
Let me make it clear: I believe people here are OVER VALUING this signing. Sorry to piss on the parade, and I hope he proves me wrong and plays at an elite level. I just don’t see it happening.
My expectation is that he can come in and immediately be better than anyone other than Amik that is currently healthy. I don’t think he’s going to be an All-Pro level player, but he is a huge improvement above guys like Whiteside and Ya-Sin if he’s healthy. Like Jman just said, this could be one of those signings like Patrick or Z last year where he can come in and provide a very solid and healthy contribution.
AQM could’ve been on a roster for anyone else too, yet sat an entire offseason without getting signed before joining the Cowboys for a month during camp and didn’t even get signed to their practice squad. Now he’s on pace for what, 12.5 sacks?
What a great signing, This guy is a former All-Pro CB…a dawg!! Perfect fit for Dan Campbell and this lockeroom. He’s gonna start day 1 and improve this secondary. The depth chart just shifted and I’m not so sure Terrion didn’t just get Wally Pipped. Love this signing! Holmes making moves while everyone just watches. (Does that make everyone feel warm and fuzzy?)
