Hes only 28 , so I think has some game still left
That’s the thing with LBer. You either see things well or you don’t l. Sports in general I guess. Vision seems like one of the few things they can’t coach up in this modern age.
■■■■ yeahhhh, LFG Brad!
Really? Seems like he’s been around so long
Honestly I think he’ll be pretty lucky to make the roster
Thats what I thought as well. Born 1998 in February. I was shocked to see only 28. I thought early 30s. Might be a biggest move Holmes has done with FA
He’s 28 not 38. Why wouldn’t he still have something left? He’s a LB.
I love the signing. I remember wishing we could draft him. Weird that he was still a free agent. He’s always been a good player. Must be because he can’t cover.
Who
Devin White. He was the league’s lowest-rated LB for a couple of years before Vegas last year. He’s still got his juice but has zero instincts, which are really important at LB. It was Jarrad Davis’s problem, Ernie Sims too. There’s a reason he was just sitting out there available to be signed.
Maybe he’s this years Zach Cunningham
I think he makes the team. If not then lions are scrambling for another lb.
Nah, he’ll make the team, and he’ll be either LB 3 or 4 to start the season, I feel it in my bunyan, and my Lions bunyan is rarely wrong.
Honestly he might make the team, but to me that’s a pretty bad sign. He is nothing like his reputation, not anymore.
Cunningham at least had LB instincts
I guess what I meant is more of a limited role
I mean, who does he really need to beat out? We know Jack and Barnes are starting, but Rodrigo as well? Maybe? Nowaski? LB group is indeed thin by looks of it ![]()
I think Nowaske has been playing much better the past couple of years, yes, though their roles are slightly different. And I’m far more intrigued by Clark personally, at least he has reasons he hasn’t hit yet and might have some untapped ceiling. Plus he’s got bona fide instincts, which again, to me, are a huge part of playing LB.
Much like Davis I have always found White to be a bit of an A gap blitzing threat. I wonder if we can get him to play teams. His skillset would be perfect for that if we he can maintain coverage gap discipline.
I do wonder if they also look at White as maybe a locker room vet/glue type guy…that LB core/back 7 is still pretty young, and not having Branch or Kerby more than likely to start the season leaves that secondary green as ■■■■. He may have lost a step, but he’s got lots of knowledge and experience to share at a minimum
This is where I would have my biggest concerns. Let’s be honest, he has the skill set to be a great LB in general, it’s this sort of assignment-based, mental side where he and guys of his ilk always struggle.
I’m not as enthused about this signing as others, he’s been a bad player for years (don’t know much about him last year though), but the Lions badly need depth at the position so it can’t possibly hurt. Don’t expect him to be an Anzalone replacement, he’s god awful in coverage. Just have him attack downhill and he could be ok.
