that’s the probelm with “defining” a BPA approach.
Is it best player based on immediate production?
is it best player based on upside, but ignoring character?
is it BPA of high positional value?
is it BPA at a position of need?
is it BPA of guys that will be signed to a 2nd contract???
See but when you put “STRICTLY” in front of BPA, like my original push back that made me the villain (lol couldn’t resist) those “is it’s” tend to go away.
Here is what STRICTLY BPA means to me: You set up your board and rank guys 1-400 or whatever number you want to end with. Then when your pick comes you take the highest guy left no matter what. You don’t bounce up and down the board targeting “your guys.” You stay “true” to your board and don’t let love of guy X or positional need affect your pick. It’s a highly emotionless methodology that some GMs espouse as how to build great teams. I’d allow for minor exceptions like at pick 12 your highest guy is a QB because you have to be true with your player rankings, and you have Goff/Hooker in the fold and Goff played good enough to earn an extension. But then you take the very next guy.
Big red flag character risks, don’t make your board at all and maybe that was the case with Carter, or you rank that guy considering the red flags at 18OA lets say and you take him there if he slides. I just do not believe BH does this and I’m GLAD he doesn’t.
But we’ve beaten this horse well into the ground, so I’m going to resist the temptation to reply to any more BPA discussion. Thanks all for the debates. Kevin Zeitler was a GREAT pick up!! Now go get freaking Gilmore who is a better option for 2024 than the man on the run anyway!!
Hey you got your greater than symbol confused with the less than symbol… i assume you dont mean to say that benito is way way better than DJ Reader and Vildor is way way better than Davis… but maybe im wrong
