Lions sign T Larry Borom

He would be the heavy favorite to me right now.

IMO that’s when you trade down. If you think you are reaching for the guy you like pick up some assets and take him later. The line is that important here. Maybe more so than any other team.

Fair enough. I would much rather have the superstar.

I don’t disagree, but just spending a 1st rounder on it isn’t a guarantee of fixing it. Just look at the Saints over the years, or the Cowboys over the past decade or so. Or the Eagles, who built a badass line without hardly spending anything on it.

We would have other ways to build a great line.

Of course I would too. But that’s a hindsight thing and I don’t look back at decisions made and get salty after the fact.

I get what you are saying and it’s not what I just suggested. Just saying when you invest in offensive weapons like we have, you better make sure we can them the ball. Otherwise what was the point?

It doesn’t guarantee fixing it, but you better f-ing try haha. I’m also wrong in regards to the draft constantly so what do I know. I’m just thinking logically here.

Oh I agree, I’m not talking about hindsight, I’m talking about your evaluation ahead of time. The way I think of Downs, Bain, Styles, etc… isn’t hindsight.

I’m not trading out of a spot for a potential HOF guy because I have a need at RT for one season lol

Since both of these FAs graded pretty well last year with mobile QBs, any thoughts on them playing even better with Jared Goff under center and not a scrambling shotgun QB behind them?

I think it entirely depends on how the draft falls for them. My guess is that whereas their preference from jump hadn’t been to move Tate, w/Penei they really are in wait-and-see mode.

17 is definitely a spot where one of their top-10 guys could fall. Maybe it’s a safety or a DE. Even a corner. If so, Brad’ll pick him there. And then pick best-available OT in the second. Whether that guy projects to be best at LT or RT will determine where they play Penei.

Advanced metrics loved his play last year. Personally I’m not very familiar.

This is the type of move that lets us wait if we don’t love the value. Or trade back if it’s available.

Sharing real estate with Trent and Penei doesn’t suck.

Obviously we’re banking on two 26 year old break out seasons being sticky. Don’t hate it. If we get this (and the corresponding OL draft picks) right the OL is set for quite a while.

PFF graded Borom 13 spots above Taylor Decker. :man_shrugging:

I’m just now realizing that RT was the blind side for the Dolphins these past few years.
