Lions to have predraft visit with two safeties

While we have the pre-draft interview thread available for this as well, the lack of news/activity seems to warrant at thread.

NFL.com reporting the Lions have visits planned with Penn State safety Jaylen Reed and Virginia safety Jonas Sanker.

Couple Day 3 favorites of the Den for Safety.

I’m personally hoping for Mickens / Malachi Moore…but these Penn St cats and Sanker are obviously in play so let’s go get some depth there.

Trust me, you don’t want Malachi Moore.

Plays well in the box, nickel, and deep. 24 years old… means he’s likely as ready as he will ever be for the next 4 yeras on rookie contract to give us depth, versatility, and special teams.

Played w/ Arnold & Branch in that secondary.

2 time Captain

What’s not to want?

Talking Day 3 here

DeBoer assured that Moore is a captain for a reason, and that reflects in his mindset and effort since the former Washington head coach arrived to Tuscaloosa in January.

“He’s a first-class guy. He’s out in the community weekly,” DeBoer said. “That’s just part of who he is. Doing things to give back, understanding the platform he has. A lot of eyes are on our program. A lot of eyes are eyes are on him. This guy plays hard for himself and his teammates, but this program means so much to him. It doesn’t make it right by any means what some of the actions were, but I want people to understand also that he’s had my and our back since day one, and there comes a point too where sometimes, as things play out, you got to have your guys back as well and understand that we all make mistakes and we all just got to own up to it. We’re doing that and we’ll continue to move on.”

Now I want to trade up for him.

Reed is my mid round saftey for us if we don’t use a pick to move up. He will be a starter in this league. Great backup that can produce if called upon.

Our Alabama local said Malachi Moore has character issues that would most likely prevent Brad from drafting him.

I’ll also say this. If we end up drafting Malachi Moore, that means Brad and Dan don’t have an issue with what I’m referring to.

He’ll probably be on our board but I don’t think he’s someone Dan will love.

I mean, I’m sure he’s a great guy. 2x captain at Bama doesn’t happen every day. He’s not a turd…I don’t think. I just don’t think he’d be a good fit in our locker room.

Now, of course, BB, Terrion, and Gibbs know him WAY better than I would, so Brad and Dan should definitely take what they say about him seriously.

But you’ll spill the tea once he’s selected, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of saying anything in the first place?

To try and tell people that I don’t think we’ll be interested in the player.

smoke, bc people automatically think Oh they want Sanker-he visited and so…I think there is a handful of good Safeties in this draft. Malaki Starks, Nic Emmanwori , Xavier Watts, Andrew Mukuba, Billy Bowman Jr… to name a few.

We had both Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph in for top 30 visits the year’s we drafted them.

Actually, we had four guys from last year’s top 30 visits drafted.

WOWZA!

In terms of ranking with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I’d bet they are all top 10 in their class.
