It’s one reason why I think certain teams will be bullish on Milroe. Dude’s a tank, not just in build but durability. So you can say, “He might not be a top of market second contract QB but we can play this way for the next five years and be a playoff contender.”
I suspect he is, he’s a little squattier than those other guys. Built a bit like Willis and Vick honestly. I’m just of the belief that it’s very difficult to predict injuries. Thick guys get hurt, scrawny guys never miss a game; durable collegians become injury-prone and vice-versa. Football’s just a hell of a violent game.
Hell Goff looks frail but I think he’s only missed 1 or 2 games in his career, right? Something like that.
Could be true, absolutely. And I should have mentioned that when talking about prospects, I’ll be stricter with guys who have an injury history. But a lack of injuries doesn’t really move the needle for me either, not positively anyway. They may be durable, or they may be lucky. The inherent violence in football will usually have me leaning toward the latter.
QBs like Lance and Richardson are going to scare teams off from drafting the toolsy running QB with an erratic arm I’d think but it only takes one I suppose.
I think the Lions have turned their attention away from Z Smith (“sources”) lol. Cleveland may want too much in return, and Falcons and Ravens have their 3’s in 2025. I think, if anything, the Lions may go dumpster diving. May peace be with us. Like others have said, even some 2 win teams may view themselves as a dark horse playoff team. Cleveland beating Baltimore may have put a wrench in things as to where the Browns view their 2024 outlook. So a no brainer trade candidate like ZS may now be a we’ll keep him unless package is great type. I hope he’s wrong as I think Smith makes a ton of sense. I have no doubt Holmes and co are making calls but poaching from PS’s may be only option. Now, if the Raiders get tricked on Sunday, might Maxx call his agent again? A smart businessman would imo. Lots at stake for him. A largely unrecognized HOF career is so shameful.
We’re getting close to a need for a new thread, but …
I see it as insanely unlikely that the Lions would casually be OK with being a playmaker away from winning the first Super Bowl in franchise history over, what, a draft pick? The logic does not add up.
Ya’ll can spin it anyway you want. The logic simply isn’t there.
If we missed out on going to the Super Bowl, or winning it, because we couldn’t generate enough pressure from the edge, no one in the organization would be forgiven.
There is not one person who agrees with this more than me. I think the FO should be in full Snead mode. Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt please. The guy I speak to is only sharing info from a couple agents he knows. Apparently the ask for some of the second tier targets are extremely high. Given our GMs stance on draft picks (thankfully so from 21-24) I think he’s trying to connect dots in his own fan-mind. Smith could be a Lion in 15 minutes, who knows…but the thought is the package we’d have to send is too rich.
As many know, I am as short-sighted a fan as they come, and I wouldn’t care if the price is too high for most. They are in a weird spot. They are desperate, and awesome all at the same time. They need bodies at this point. So I’m hopeful that anyone they add will help. I guess we just have to trust them.
I think that’s why we haven’t got smith, our 1st 4th rd pic is 23 pics in. If we had our third it would be closer to a 4th. But there waiting and wanting something better then pick 125, we don’t have the amo to compete with Atlanta.
I certainly would be surprised if the Lions trade a 1st or 2nd round pick unless it lands a true stud like Crosby, Hendrickson, Walker, etc… but I agree that Hopmes has been willing to part with beans when it suits him.
He traded beans to get Vaki and Manu… and lesser trades.
I went through the roster… and can see at least 40 of the 53 roster spots already secured for 2025. If a few pending UFAs are re-signed… it climbs to ~ 43 guys.
We can certainly be disappointed if a move isn’t made. But who we get, hypothetically, and the cost of the getting him obviously matters.
Criticizing Brad for possibly not making a move when all we have to go on about the WHO are bits of reporting and rampant speculation, and we have almost nothing to go on about the COST that would’ve been involved, makes zero sense to me.
I’ll say it again: NO GM, esp. in the NFC, wants to cut a deal that makes the Lions stronger. EVERY GM knows the Lions really need help at DE. Brad’s negotiating from a bad position. Insisting that he “go for it” with no appreciation of that fact or any knowledge of what’s really going on behind the scenes… phhhht.
