Keep the machine rolling is my opinion move on from Big V I don’t like back injuries they are just so difficult to not reagrivate and hinder a players career.I can see Holmes being flexible with #18 as far as moving around if he sees fit.I know everyone wants D with both picks but I have never seen a offense like last year and Goff had a clean pocket and RBs had lanes which controlled the game clock.Just a hunch and a wish on my end that one of the top Oline guys will fall in there laps and we keep bulldozing teams into submission.
There have been at least 3 teams in NFL history that were able to have a really good offensive line without four 1st round picks on it. Its strange, but I think we can be the 4th team to pull it off.
All the rumors I’m hearing is Big V will be back in a restructured deal. We’ll know pretty soon how it all pans out.
Brad may go OL even if V is back (which it looks like he will be).
Future, depth, dominant trenches!
Late developmental guy with a high ceiling wouldn’t surprise me either.
I would have no problem making the oline even stronger in this draft. Continue to make our strength a strength, especially as Decker is getting older. It gives us flexibility for the future with no downfall of our oline.
Word. I’m all for it. Hoping Ragnow’s toe is fine. The OL is the key to scoring 45/game!
Line up O’Cyrus Torrance next to Sewell and look the F#@k out.
Only lineman I’d want in the first is Skoronski and thats if he slipped to 18 which is highly unlikely. Just makes absolutely no fiscal sense, IMO. Especially when guard is one of the most replaceable positions in football. I’d sooner draft a guy like Darnell Washington at 18 than Torrence and I really really don’t want a TE in the 1st.
Indeed it is, protect Goff, give him time n run the ball down people’s throats with our OC’s creativity. Don’t mess with the formula
What if it’ someone who can slip into Taylor’s spot, once he retires? I belive Brad thinks like this. Future move.
I would understand it more if Decker was older. Decker is 28 years old. He has 5 years of prime play left in him at least. Hell, some LT’s can play at a high level into their late 30’s. The best O-Lineman in the NFL is Trent WIlliams and he is 34.
I think it would be non-sense to start worrying about replacing our very good 28 year old LT.
The same people advocating for Torrence will be the ones asking why we didn’t devout more high end resources to the defense when they struggle again.
I certainly understand the logic. Adding a very talented RG would give use elite talent at all 5 spots. If we take a guard early we are essentially already dismissing the possibility of re-signing Jonah. Draft a guard in the 2nd or 3rd and plug him next to one of the best centers and RT in the NFL if Vaitai isn’t back.
I’m also hearing Big V will be back and if it’s a restructured, cap friendly move i have no issue with it. He was very good when healthy and i wouldnl take experience over youth with our OL.
Its entirely dependent on his back for me. If the Lions think it is a non issue moving forward then I’m all for it. If there is doubt, cut ties now as we can’t afford to rely on somebody and have to make last minute moves when it falls through.
If his back checks out then slash his base salary by 5mil. Give him the chance to earn it back via playing time incentives. If he plays over 60% snaps, he earns back 1mil. Keeping doing that for each 10% mark he clears, and if he plays 100% of the snaps then he makes it all back.
How good of a blocker is TE Washington @frm710?
If we drafted Skoronski and Washington, would we have like the best o-line ever?
Most other TE’s barely moved the blocking sled. Washington pushed it back with ease until they told him to stop. Ran 4.65 at his size. Then the one handed catch.
He is a “football player”, not just a TE.
You should never trust a player with back issues
I don’t believe Vaitai has shown a previous history of back issues. If the medical team is comfident its a non-issue I would be okay with bringing him back at a reduced rate.
He is a good blocker, and I think he will get better at the next level, he improved while at UGA. I think he is the best blocking TE in the draft add in good hands as well I’m tempted if he is there with the first second round pick.
And I think he goes bottom half of the first round so no chance for Detroit unless it’s in the first…ducks.
I too think the Lions will draft a lineman in the first 4 picks, especially if there is a trade down.
Have to keep a strength a strength and the Lions badly need a development guard or tackle combo.
Decker will turn 30 before next season starts. I still think he’s got a few real good seasons in him yet though. Eventually Sewell will be the left tackle, hopefully not for another 3 or 4 years though. Decker and Sewell gotta be one of the best tackle duos in the nfl.
Something I found interesting is with cutting Brockers, the Lions don’t have a guy on the roster older than 29 right now. Big V and Decker both turn 30 this summer though. It’s a very young team overall.
