Logan Sternberg OG Kentucky is a Lion!

Player Bio

Kentucky reached into Alabama to grab Stenberg, one of the state’s top high school offensive-line recruits. The four-year starter at Madison’s James Clemens High contributed in 12 games as a reserve as a redshirt freshman. He ascended to the starting gig in 2017, starting all 13 games at left guard. Stenberg started every game at left guard in 2018, helping Benny Snell Jr. become Kentucky’s all-time leading rusher. He started all 13 games at left guard again his senior campaign, earning 2019 second-team All-SEC honors for his bullish play. Stenberg was benched for a couple of series in the team’s Belk Bowl win over Virginia Tech due to receiving a personal foul penalty.

Round 5

Overview

Scrappy, blue-collar guard who plays an assignment-oriented, dependable brand of football. Stenberg is lacking in both body composition and pure play strength and is much better at the first two phases of the block than the finishing phase. He’s smart and aware in pass protection, with adequate recovery athleticism to battle edge-to-edge rushers. He should be a capable NFL backup who can step in and hold up if he’s asked to step in and start.

Strengths

  • Understands what his assignment is on every play
  • Workman-like in his fundamentals and approach
  • Uses grip strength and determination for additional block sustain
  • Has feisty field demeanor and plays with edge
  • Works with footwork and strain on double teams
  • Good awareness and set-up to snap and catch twisting defenders
  • Tight-stiff punch with adequate accuracy
  • Works hard at improving position post-contact
  • Played with better body control in 2019

Weaknesses

  • Below-average build with shorter arms
  • Narrow back and chest
  • Looks to get away with excessive sneak-holds
  • High center of gravity diminishes ability to move defenders
  • Lacks upper-body strength to steer and secure consistently
  • Average hand quickness into first contact
  • Uses forward lean to aid against bull rush
  • Could struggle to protect his edge in pass pro

I love his weakness that’s really a strength.

Also I’ve been unapologetically drinking already. Hey isolation and a new kid and no sleep …

Sure wish this kid went somewhere they can follow this logical pattern: He’s not strong and he doesn’t have great leverage due to his arms but he wants to win at all costs and you can see how scrappy he is bc he will fucking hold every down before he gives up. If we just teach him to NFL standard technique and a weight and diet training we could get this guy a great guard.

Anyone else like to see the bottle half full?

It’s a great pick. The last three years at UK there was never any question about the left guard spot with him. He started every game his last three seasons and helped Benny Snell break the rushing record at UK two years ago and last year was the anchor behind Lynn Bowden leading the nation in yards per carry and leading the SEC in rushing yards. This kid plays with a nasty streak and we can fully expect him to be a serviceable back up guard with the potential, intelligence, and coachable attitude to develop into a starter.
