Looks like one team is ready to break the internet on draft day

Aaron Hernandez hung around overnight.

Jesus @Bols it’s not a roast man, goddamn.

He’s a grower, not a shower.

This is funny to me, because I just got done looking at him. I can definitely see it. I forgot how great of a runner he is. The thing I worry about is the whole Trey Lance/Justin Fields aspect. People thought ā€œoh we just need to get his footwork down and Lance will be fineā€ and it turned out it wasn’t so easy. Richardson might still make it because his physical ability is absurd, but now I wonder about his mental make up. But man, if Milroe could improve his touch and accuracy, he could be the next great running QB. I would not take him in the first though. QBs have a way of going higher than they should.

It could be the Lions are a trade down partner too.

I’d like to see what happens with one of these guys if they aren’t thrown into the fire right away. Like let Milroe sit for 2-3 years. I was hoping he might get that chance due to draft capital since it seemed he was falling to the 3rd round range, but looks like that was wrong. If a team like the Browns or Giants trades up for him he’ll be thrown in too early, and he’ll fail spectacularly. Just like those other guys did.

I’ll say this, I would be very, very surprised - but not totally stunned - if we’re the team that takes him. (And before everyone jumps my ass about it, I would hate it too).

My reasoning:

Brad was in on Trey Young (edit: whoops, Trey Lance) and purportedly AR, so clearly athleticism at the position seems to appeal to him.

He loves guys from Alabama.

Milroe specifically is supposed to be a great kid.

We COULD sit him for a long time.

I certainly wouldn’t bet on that happening, and personally, I don’t think Milroe’s it. He goes into the tank when things go awry too regularly for my liking. But there are avenues I could see to it.

I’m not sure that I agree in NYG. DaBoll has a track record with the type. Start with a college offense and build upon that.

Now success wouldn’t be pretty statistically and would probably only result in 7 wins max. But I’ve said it for months, if I’m DaBoll and looking for a Hail Mary to keep
my job it really does feel like the best option. Probably wouldn’t work but I don’t believe spectacular failure is a forgone conclusion.

I think that’s what Steichen wanted to do with ARich until it became clear that his body (or his lack of toughness) wouldn’t allow for it.

I agree that Daboll’s a good coach for him, but that’s a terrible situation overall. Too much pressure on him to save their jobs. If they were just starting together I’d get it, but with the current state of things I don’t think it would work out at all.

Now if he goes to a team where Daboll’s the OC next year, that would be perfect.

And again, for Milroe’s sake, I hope he sits.

Curious why you said this, did I miss something? From everything I remember during and after the draft, he’s an outstanding young man

He’s supposed to be a sweet kid. It’s more the toughness/love of football questions I think.

We’re talking moonshots here. They need one to survive. And I think it has to be the young QB over-performing reality.

I know you’re talking pure Hail Mary, I get that, and sort of implied in that is a bet on traits and upside. The problem with that is generally those guys don’t hit fast if they play right away. Like would Daboll survive if Milroe had Allen’s rookie season? I don’t think so. And I think Milroe doing something like that is far, far more likely than not.

To me, the rookie ā€œmoon shotā€ in this case is ironically more of a high floor guy. I think that type is more likely to get you rookie year bang for your buck. Sort of like Nix. The biggest problem there is I’m not sure there’s a guy like that in this class. It’s definitely not Dart and probably not Shedeur. Shough? Not for me.

Seattle is a perfect scenario for him.

Mike Macdonald had Lamar all them years.

They won’t get to address OL or S

Maybe they go OL and then round 2 they give up next years 1st to come get him

DREAM SCENARIO for us

They have pick 50,52 in round 2

82,92 in round 3

I could see them going OL round 1 AND with one of their 2nd rounders. They did very little to address the middle of their really bad line, and unlike Geno, Darnold absolutely HAS to have a good line. You saw how he melted against the Rams. They’re doing him a disservice if they don’t protect him, and I’m sure they know that.

They could also go two in round 2, or one in round 1 and one in round 3. But I fully expect them to nab two iOL in this draft. But having so many picks does make it so they don’t HAVE to do it in round 1

I also don’t think Milroe is near the prospect Lamar is. I mean he never came close to winning the Heisman and Lamar one it once and almost a second time. I think Milroe is more like Malik Willis than Lamar. Better athlete though.

Right not saying he is.

See I think if you play it right, you’re establishing a high floor with Milroe. Or at least a chance of one. And I mean a high floor relative to rookie QBs. Let’s say you take Henigan and win 7 games but he seems Minshew like. Is that going to convince the Mara family. Maybe. They do seem uncommonly loyal. But I kind of doubt it.

Milroe rushes for 1,000 yards, only passes for 3k yards but takes care of the ball. You protect the defense and hope to perform well in high leverage situations. Basically looking to recreate 2022. If I was in DaBoll’s shoes I’d view that as my likely beat shot.

Not even close. But I think he’s a better prospect than I ever thought Danny Dimes was.

If he gets in the right system, Milroe can succeed.

With all the success Hurts had, that’s why I had AR15 going #4 that year with Indy Coach being former OC from Philly.

Milroe could be that same type of prospect
