There IS a floor the rushing brings him, and I suppose a Fields-ian approach that could win them some games and excite from a rushing standpoint is one avenue. I’m not sure the defense is talented enough to actually help them win games that way, but it’s possible.
And like I said, I don’t think there’s a Nix in this class (it certainly wouldn’t be Henigan). Maybe Will Howard? Unlikely, but so were Russ and Dak’s rookie years. So it’s possible specific to this class your Milroe moon-shot is the best option for that sort of thing.
But I think you’re talking the mooniest of moon shots here. Like trying to hit it by throwing something at it. I think Shedeur has a much better chance of hitting for them, and I don’t think his chance is very good either (and of course he costs a lot more). I suppose in some sense it depends on what type of best-case excites you; a QB rushing for a lot of yards but struggling as a passer, or a game manager type who makes the other players on the roster more useful. But you also have to factor in how likely they are, and I think the latter is at least twice as likely.
I would also really hate it for Milroe, though the Giants won’t care about that. This is a terrible way to blood QBs, and even the league has admitted they have a QB development problem. Especially for a guy like Milroe who needs so much work.
But he’s also in the perfect situation for his skill set. Fit is such an underrated aspect of player success. No one wants to talk about it but if Milroe goes to a train wreck team, he’s doomed imo. If he goes to us or the Rams, his chances of hitting increase dramatically.
I hope someone takes him prior to 28. That increases the chances a quality NFL player drops to us.
Milroe is a one read and then run QB. That works in college. He will struggle mightily in the NFL. He threw 11 INT’s his senior year (to only 16 TD). He had 20 rushing TD. If I was looking for a RB, I would consider him.
Well everyone knew Josh Rosen was going in the 1st. Blaine Gabbert too. Those other guys though were widely considered 2nd rounders when the process started. So was Nix. Hell a lot of people had McCarthy in the 2nd.
But there are also guys like Levis, Drew Lock, Hackenburg, and Geno who were widely mocked in the 1st and didn’t go there. So even though QBs often get pushed up, it’s not always.
Milroe is the inverse of Sanders… One throws from the pocket with a weak arm who relies on timing and is a cocky SOB… The other works better off schedule, has a monster arm and is a humble, great man. I know HCs/GMs who believe in both types of players, only takes one.
