My hot take is that “Flus” is trying to get fired so he can get out of this situation. No human with a functioning brain would defend those actions. I just can’t believe that he truly believes this was the right call, it’s truly incomprehensible.
Agree 100%
I also believe the mental aspect of a NFL QB is the toughest step to take.
A rook with 10 total games under his belt is changing plays with the game on the line. If Payton was his coach, he’d never start again.
He may have made the correct call but CW changed it.
This is especially true because the Lions were inviting them the throw a short pass in the middle of the field.
Ball was on the 41 yard line. A TD from that distance and little time on the clock was a pipe dream.
After the sack… as you said… the original plan is done.
Adjust the plan.
Call the T.O.
Call a short pass to get 6-10 yards and tell the WRs/TEs to get down on the turf. Run the ball to the ref to be placed.
Get toy butts off the fueld.
Have the special teams unit ready for the fire drill FG attempt.
A T.O. at 30 seconds allows for a 6-8 second play….
and then 20 seconds to get the FG unit in place for a kick.
We got lined up, got the play and then I made an adjustment because I saw the clock running down knowing that if we complete a ball inbounds or anything like that, we won’t have time to kick a field goal or anything like that. So, I made an adjustment and knew Rome was either going to be one-on-one or he was going to beat the safety and be one-on-one there. Tried to give him a shot, we got the shot and missed."
You had a time out Caleb you moron. Throw a quick pass. Take time out. Kick the field goal. By changing the play you ■■■■■■ your team over and wasted 10 seconds
I would have called the time out, but there was plenty of time to get lined up and complete a short pass. They didn’t need many yards for a field goal.
New matt eberfluz is Ryan day, give the best players ,they will find a way to lose @Davicus @stephenboyd57
In his eye, as always, he doesn’t see he did nothing wrong.
It’s the HC’s job to make sure players aren’t free lancing and we see CHI players free lancing way too often. That’s a clear lack of respect for the HC. None of those players thought he’d be back so they are all trying to put up highlights for self gain.
Chicago is a shit show and switching head coaches won’t fix the immediate problem. Whoever takes over is going to need to get that locker room under control. Most likely it will take some turnover to do it.
I can’t agree any more with your post. 100% right.
It’s ironic in a sense, because I really believe that Eberflus’s plan for the team was for him to run the defense, and for the OC to run the offense completely independently. I never saw or heard about Eberflus getting involved with the offense at all. I think he wanted the offense to run itself.
The offense quickly spun out of control from the beginning of the season. I think Eberflus thought that by firing Waldron and getting Brown in, a new voice was going to fix everything. Now that voice is in charge of everything. That locker room started fractured and is now very fractured. Just wait until that defense starts coming apart, like we saw the Jets defense do after firing Saleh.
Whoever steps in at Chicago better bring mops, brooms and trash bags. There will be a LOT of shit to clean up.
He was sacked with 32 seconds.
According to the ESPN recap there was 36 seconds left and they were on the Lions 41.
Eberfus should have called a time out right then and there. Gather his team and make a decision to either take two shots at the endzone for the win or loss. Or take a pass down the sideline for 10 yards, get out of bounds and kick a FG. If you fail you can still decide for the Hail Mary or let your kicker try for the 58 yarder.
2nd and 10 from the 25 with 43 seconds, they get an illegal hands to the face:
That negated what would have been a 1st and 10 at the 13.
Instead, it’s now 2nd and 20 from the 35 with 36 seconds.
The result of the next play is a sack at the 41 at 32 seconds with the clock running.
You just went from a perfect plan where the clock was stopped and you were at the 13 to the wheels falling off, backed up to 58 yard FG range. He HAS to call a timeout here, as we all agree. Even if there’s a delay in getting the TO called, you’re looking at 30 seconds and no timeouts. With that much time, you can still throw anywhere on the field. If the deep shot is open, take it. If not, just get your kicker 10 yards closer.
I know he wanted that TO for his kicking team, but the penalty and sack ruined that plan. He didn’t adjust, which is why he’s an ex-coach.
“13 seconds”, Caleb, is a travesty.
Rookie mistake.
He HAS to call a timeout here, as we all agree.
100% agree
Call the time out. Regroup. Settle everyone down and set the plan of attack.
