MCDC hasn’t learned

He’s clearly a downgrade for the team as the OC because the O and HC coaching now sucks. Set your ego aside and give playcalling back to Morton or give someone else on the staff a shot.

I will agree that Campbell is lost in his sauce right now. He is coaching for the team he had, not the team he has. Also, as Philly correctly pointed out, stopping the Lions on 4th down counts as a turnover. Doesn’t every coach out there tell you that you can’t turn the ball over? What difference does it make if it’s a fumble, pick, or turnover on downs?

Campbell’s objective should be to get points every possession. You never turn down points. Dan does it routinely. At some point, he has to sit down and have a tough self scouting session and realize that his plan is not working. Dan has to look at it like this. “If I was on defense and needed a stop, what would I pick the offense to do?” Right now, Dan’s play calls are helping the other team’s defense.

This is among the many issues with the team. There is a lot of work to do. It’s nothing we are going to “clean up”. It’s areas that we are missing entirely. Every season is different. Team’s have adjusted to Dan’s style and are camping on it. It’s time to admit, things need to change.

Fantastic breakdown of what is happening, especially on offense with the OL.

Dan looked more authentic in the first two season, now Dan l ook more like a year end car salesman

I think there is more nuance here than most are implying. Were all of those runs the initial call? Were some checks/audibles? What blocks were missed? Etc.

That shit never happened with Ben Johnson.

We didn’t just do it once or twice it was the same thing everytime with the same result, that sounds exactly like Dan Campbell and his stubbornness.

The Packers scored 14 points on 4th down plays….

in addition to converting on 4th down to seal the win (instead of punting it deep).

They did to us exactly what we did to them last year

Of course it did. It happens with every team.

But it happened less frequently with Ben. I think it happened less frequently with AG as well. I think KS has more defensive playcalling instinct (which makes the last two weeks all the more puzzling) but I think AG ran a tighter ship.

Everyone here in the Den surely remembers the horrible 3rd quarter performances in big games with Ben… often drawing the “SMARTEST MAN IN THE ROOM” comments.

Right???

What game with Ben Johnson did we go for it 7 times on 4th down and not get any of them

Or what game did Ben go for it on 4th down that many times and just run it up the gut everytime.

It’s like The movie Tin Cup were he just keeps hitting the same shot over and over still rolls off the green.

Those are different questions.

And again, we don’t know the ins and outs of the process. We’re runs the primary calls in every instance?

TBH I found the lamenting the loss of Ben to be silly. He did a great job as an OC so he got hired as a HC. That is how this works.

I think it is just a coincidence but our special teams have been playing lights out since Dan started calling plays. The game against the Giants belonged to the punter, kicker and Gibbs. If anything they are under-utilized. They can be an asset and I think we beat the Eagles if we just kick our field goals and punt it when we should. Even that game our defense played good enough to win.

Dan didn’t drop eight passes or whatever that number was.

We just need to play better. The execution is what is killing us. THAT is what Dan needs to address.

Dude you really don’t find anything wrong with going for it on all the 4th downs , and on top of that you pretty much just run right at them. I get the execution thing, but what went on Thursday seem like a lack of common sense.

So I hated not kicking to get within one score. But I did love the playcall. The first one was the opposite. I’m fine with going for it but I didn’t love the call.

I just don’t know or remember what the mechanics were for each of those plays. Was it the initial call or did Jared check into it? Did a particular block get missed that derailed the play? And so on …

I was speaking in reference to the rest of the team playing worse since Dan was giving all his time to play calling. Our special teams were terrible through the first 6 games or so. Over the last 3 or 4 games they have been playing excellent. Against the Giants they started nearly every drive inside their own 15 and Bates hit a 59 yard FG to send it to OT.
