Mclaurin Requests Trade

That might impact my thought process.

Right. I will acknowledge that there is a whole assortment of locker room morale considerations and what not.

most WR fall off a cliff after 30.

Big guys get beat up too much.
Fast guys get slow.

To be fair. Reports are.
$30m guaranteed at signing
$60m total.

So based on my math.
His new contract is (old contract plus new)
4 years $127m (31.8m aav)
But only $74m guaranteed. (60 for this contract and $14m current)

So really only guaranteed for this year and next year. Last 2 years likely little to NONE guaranteed money. At which point hell sit out and whine again. And hell prob just get cut.

I also just don’t think he’s worth that much. He’s been a good WR for his career, but never on the level of an ARSB or the other guys around his salary. But he’s been bolstered by an elite QB and wonky offense.

Yea but that guys has been as consistent as anyone. No reason to think he won’t do it again. But it will be interesting to see the real contract numbers. I think the Commanders were kind of in a tough place not to pay him as well.

They bought, or extended rather, the top.

Sure but he’s consistently a 60 yards per game WR.

They did

He’s their clear cut wr1 and they just went to the NFC Championship with a rookie QB. They can afford to pay their best WR. McLaurin has been through a bunch of bad quarterbacks on bad commanders teams and still has put up 1000 yards 5 straight years. I think he’s a damn good football player and definitely meshed with JD last year.

I’m not suggesting that he’s a good football player but his AAV is AJ Brown and there is a large gap between the quality of those players.

They are paying him like a true #1. Does that game log overview look to you like true #1WR production?

The Redskins got the QB pick right and that trumps all but otherwise I’ve been fairly underwhelmed by the early decisions of the Peters regime.

He’s definitely a number one on that team. Salaries go up every year, so if anything, they should have taken care of him sooner and paid less. I’m not a fan of all the commanders moves either but they have shown they will pay older players like Wagner and now Von Miller. I think they have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL. They seem to be all in on Daniels rookie contract window and couldn’t afford to not get mclaurin on board imo.

I can definitely see where you are coming from though but I just think the commanders were pretty much forced to extend him after getting Deebo.

I don’t think we’re really that far off in terms of our opinions. Like you I do think they probably had to do it. I just think Terry is probably somewhere around the 15th-20th best WR in the league and now they are paying him the sixth highest AAV.

The commanders should have expected an issue when they traded for Deebo. And they should have never let it be this big of a distraction. They have an old roster and if we had played them 10 times last year I think we win 8 or 9 of them. I watched CJ have his sophomore slump and wouldn’t be shocked if JD has one as well.

I’m kinda shocked no one talks about that run defense. The eagles ran for a playoff tying record 7 touchdowns against them. And the lions definitely could have done more damage on the ground.

I think their defense in general is a mess. I do think that they’ll be a problem when they have the ball. I just think that they’ll run into far more problems trying to outscore the opposition than they are likely expecting. I don’t think they’ll suck but I think they’ll like be in the 7-9 win range and finish 3rd in the division.

Prior to the extension he was 10th highest paid WR AAV/Cap.

now hes the 5th. 9.8% of the cap.

But i always say. if you’re the top 16 at your position. (And i think terry is borderline) your gonna get top 5 money.

Jefferson and Chase are over 11%.

AJ brown is almost identical at 9.75%

St Brown way down at 9th highest at 9.5%

These WRs are IMO in a completely different tier.

At THIS stage of Terrys career absolutely. But thats the other issue. Aging players always get top 10 money. Because they want a raise. At his prime he was that tier. Just had crap QBs. Now hes got the qb. Just older.

im very curious to see the contract breakdown. To see what the REAL contract is.

Even st brown has a bogus year at the end of his deal. Just to inflate the AAV and make it look good for the agent.
