McNeill Update

Sounds like he’s going to miss a decent chunk of the season, which is to be expected with a late season ACL tear. He should be dialled in for the playoffs though.

Most here have said that, some want to push his time up out of need.

I can tell you from my perspective i never wanted to push up his timetable i was just calling out how foolish it is to speak with certainty when discussing the return timeline when no information had come out about the injury outside of it being an acl.

Now that Dan and the team are saying it will take into the season, okay that sucks but also not unexpected. Glad we could get information from the team instead of continuing to speak on another persons recovery with such certainty despite having 0 actual insight.

This is why I thought getting Levi back for a year was so key. The position is basically his this year. Even when guys return from ACL’s, they aren’t fully back until the following year. We won’t be seeing much of peak Alim this year. Maaaaybe in the playoffs. But for the most part it’s Levi’s position for the season.

I think we should form a prayer group for the team.
Not that Creator would allow us to win, just, that He would allow our players to play.

There is Wingo too, his injury was a meniscus, so there’s better hope for a return to form for him. This article doesn’t really say why he could be special, just that he’s got a season under his belt etc.

Sounds like November to me.

I saw that one, but isn’t that just like, his trainer saying that about him? I loved Mingo in the draft so I agree, but this just felt like hyping a client. The Duke Manyweather approach.

DT definitely in play at 28!

Yeah, that’s why I said the article doesn’t do what it says on the tin.

Oh man, this is so much better than I thought. I thought I read he had an ACL.

Also probably why he was cool with a 1 year deal cause he knows he is gonna get a ton of 3 tech snaps… Get 4 or 5 sacks and then go get paid in free agency.

Exactly! It made so much sense all the way around. He can be a major, major part of a defense on a good team, a team where he knows the other players and coaches, and at his natural position (as opposed to last year when he had to play out of position at edge so often). If he improves as much as he has the past couple of seasons, 4 or 5 sacks is the floor imo.

Obviously he’s not returning until mid season at earliest. He got injured late last season so on a 9-12 month timeline for full recovery, likely the end of that timeline, we’re talking about November or December until Alim is back to being Alim. Hopefully Levi stays healthy, will Wingo even be available to start the season? Lots of questions on the D-Line

This why im fine with getting a couple DTs in the draft add on the factor of Lopez/Reader/Levi/Paschal all being on 1 year deals as well

I figured hes out until Thanksgiving give or take.

Wingo HOPEFULLY might make it for the Regular season.

I think both DE and DT are high priorities for the draft. And not some FCS/D2/CFL project player either

Yea that sounds about right. And even when back he’s probably going to be on a pitch count for a few games. Hopefully ready to murder people come January.

The problem with DT is what kind do you take? Alim, while he might basically be a non-factor this year, is still our 3T of the future. So spending a high pick on a 3t isn’t the best use of resources. That includes Nolen, Graham, Shemar Turner, Alexander, and Sanders.

At 0/1 there’s Bromart to think about. I don’t think he’s the future, and at least you’re starting to hear whispers our FO might not either, but we have traditionally been very patient with our guys. Would they give him one more year to show something? At the very least would it stop them from hitting a 0/1T this year, especially since we have Reader too? I think it might. So that could eliminate Phillips, Caldwell, Stackhouse, and depending on how we evaluate them, Grant, Tyleik and Collins down the board.

I think there’s a sweet spot at DT if we take one early. Someone who can play both 3T AND 0/1, so they can stay in our long term plans. Line up with Alim (in the future) on attacking downs, line up with Reader on run downs or whoever we have at 0/1 in the future. There’s enough room in there to rotate, especially if we can add a guy who can do both.

Derrick Harmon is the ideal of this sort of player imo (he can even line up outside too). At least early. I think Deone Walker has the potential to become that kind of guy, but he’s not there yet and I don’t know that he’ll even be on our board, though we HAVE met with him. Personally I believe Grant and Tyleik can give us some 3T pop the same way Alim does, bigger guys with more juice than they should have, and then later there’s Pegues. Not a lot of guys who fit that type though.

Above average NT are much cheaper than above average 3TDt.

I always lean 3t.
