Then that will be the cap for 2027.

I believe ONE of the reasons Illitch authorized Harris to Trade Skubal & Mize is lingering memories of the Tigers signing a former Nationals pitcher several years ago for over $100M, who failed miserably with the Tigers. There was alot of discussion back then from Tiger Mgmt, who to paraphrase vowed to “Never do that again”. Fast forward to 2026. I could easily envision Tiger Mgmt conducting a thorough drill down Risk Analysis on Skubal & Mize, and coming to the conclusion of either pitcher breaking down again, physically, to Not being worthy of re-signing, and trading at close to the “Top”, whatever that is, for a 2-Month Rental, which will admitally be less than Full Value…

On a Side Note: With the $$$ saved with these 2 trades, I would think the Tigers would have ample funds to go after One or More Top End relievers, whenever the Next Season begins. Closer Jansen @ $11M for 1 year IS a catastrophe, and won’t be re-signed, as I have predicted throughout the current season. I’ve seen way too much of him here in LA. He was DONE Last Year !!!…lol

They overpaid for Zimmerman in the wake of Scherzer spurning them. Zimmerman was coming off 5 solid to darn good season throwing a solid amount of innings each year. Good arm, super durable, heading into his prime.

Dude goes like 1 ERA 5 and 0 in 7 starts or so…

and then spends the rest of the deal careening from injury to injury and getting hammered at each restart of his Tiger careee.

Sucks.

All I can think about is where we would be if we had Big Mike in charge still God Rest his Soul
