They need someone. 30 touches is a lot. Gibbs will break down quickly with that work load.
There’s no doubt that we got worse at RB2. But IMO the issue isn’t that DMo isn’t here; it’s that the Lions didn’t even give Vaki or (my preference) Saylors a CHANCE to make a difference.
Gibbs had 34 touches. Vaki got 3.
That’s ridiculous.
Keep doing that and we won’t see the same Gibbs coming down the stretch, if he lasts that long.

He had 3 TD’s. 2 rushing, and one catch with 60 yards. You can knock the 3.0 but the OL for the Texans is still the problem. And yes, they do miss him. 700-1,000 rush yards, and 8-12 TD’s a season is a big deal. 30+ carries is too damn for much for Gibbs.
I’m in favor of giving more touches to another back, but let’s not forget that RBs in NFL history used to commonly have 30 touches a game. Gibbs is young and strong.
I do also think that today’s NFL is a bit different and I will grant that. Defenders are faster and more athletic than in previous eras and it’s not a good plan to expose Jahmyr to that much punishment.
There will be weeks when the Lions can build bigger leads into the second half where they don’t need to lean on him so much. And Pacheco will return at some point, for who knows how long.
But I’m not worried about Gibbs after yesterday.
It’s the tough running that sets the tone for the o-line. This line is still soft IMO. Hopefully they harden soon.

If they ran Saylors (or whoever) as many times as Monty, the difference would be minimal. Monty was tough and fit the mold of what the team wanted. But he isn’t some elite talent. He can be replaced. Someone just needs to be given the opportunity ala Swaggy.
