oh yeah-that’s funny 
sure they did, however decades before “bigfoot” was a known word, people didn’t know what to call it, so things like Hairy Man was primarily used in The North. Down South used slang like Booger or Wood Booger to describe a large, upright, naked, hairy , manlike being.
