Moves for Sunday and Manu to IR

OK we were ALL thinking it…

Prolly means Branch and Kirby are playing? (Maybe?)

Yeah I think both Kerby and Branch are in. Campbell said he felt Branch would play in his press conference yesterday. I think the MRI was precautionary, making sure there wasn’t an issue causing the soreness or pain. They gave him the day off to give him as much rest as possible, and they probably tape him up heavily but he should be good.

I think our bye week is at the perfect time this year. Hopefully it helps us get as healthy as possible for the back stretch of our schedule.

I feel better about Skipper playing than Manu, but for someone (not you) to say it’s a huge upgrade is a pretty big reach.

Wait, what do you mean about the McCarthy injury? Hes zero percent a fake injury guy… The Vikings absolutely love him as well. Not sure where you’re going with that

Whether it was Manu or Skipper both are gonna need a ton of help in pass protection.

Hoping for the best. Get the ball out quick Goff.

That’s probably true. For now at least.

Just my opinion, and I’ve heard others say it as well, but I think the “ankle injury” was totally an excuse to get him out of the lineup because of how badly he had played. Justin Jefferson was pissed at the end of the Falcons game. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a team diagnosing a high ankle sprain the day after a game and ruling a player out with no testing or anything. That seemed way to coincidental for me.
Manu’s injury followed a much more standard injury protocol, but I think it was strange that he practices Wednesday, then is immediately ruled out. He seemed fine after the game, and was well enough to practice but then gets added to the injury list midweek, right after Dan says that “hey, we do have Skipper and Cochran available too”.

Lots going on here.

The DB moves and OL were expected, but cutting Chris Smith and moving Quinton Jefferson to the active roster on the DL surprised me.

Manu to IR? Oh boy. Delays his development even longer. This isn’t good at all.

I think it was IR or cut. It’s hard to get injured when you are standing up straight while your QB gets demolished.

We are adding a Mallett and a Hallett. :joy:

People might say it’s crazy, but I think this move was done to clear a spot to replace Manu but also keep him under team control. Maybe he did get hurt bad in practice, but something just seems suspicious to me here. I think the Lions got to see Manu, and realized he isn’t close to being an NFL tackle yet and are quietly stashing him while keeping guys that are closer to NFL ready on the roster.

The Detroit Lions place OL Giovanni Manu on Reserve/Injured.

The Detroit Lions sign S Erick Hallett II, DL Quinton Jefferson and CB Nick Whiteside to the active roster from the practice squad and waive C Kingsley Eguakun and DL Chris Smith from the active roster.

Manu out is not good at all

Skipper is at best average at pass and run blocking. Manu is a plus run blocker and a minus pass blocker. So choose wisely.

They are basically on fumes at tackle at the moment

It’s not even a choice for me. A LT CANNOT be a minus pass blocker. It’s like a WR with no hands, or a RB with no speed.
Question, who is more important to the team? David Montgomery, or Jared Goff?

Manu may help David Montgomery, but Skipper helps Jared Goff. We’ve already got plus run blocking OL in spades. Give me Skipper all day long to protect the blindside of the most important player on the field.

I actually disagree that Skipper is even as good as Manu forget upgrade.

Run blocking:

Manu > Skipper

Pass blocking

Skipper > Manu

But here is the thing. Manu can get better. Skipper has hit his ceiling is on his way down. He will only get worse from here on out.

I just think Manu is serviceable with upside available.

And his major mistake was a missed call. Which game 1 our G-C-G was killing is.

Skipper will give up a sack this game that is pretty much guaranteed.

And again Manu missed a call hence the mistake on the one sack. That is fixable

Average at best in both run and pass blocking is all we need while Decker is out. What we can’t have are blown assignments/missed calls that will get our QB hurt.

Skipper’s physical limitations are well known, but if he’s doing what he’s supposed to do and in the right place, that’s all we need on a short term basis.

Skipper probably will allow a sack. Penei could allow a sack. That happens. However, that missed call from Manu, nearly got Goff killed. There are certain mistakes you are not allowed to make more than once. The sack in question was allowed to 6’4, 263 Joseph Ossai. Now, imagine if Manu played this game, that the sack he gives up is to 6’6 310 Chris Jones…

Good news! The mistake you made is fixable. Bad news, the QB you will be fixing it with is Kyle Allen for the rest of the season.

Think of it this way. After game 1, Mohagany and Ratledge had terrible games. Dan clearly saw that the mistakes made were correctable and stuck with them. This game, Manu makes two mistakes, and after the game Campbell is saying “we have other options available”. That’s Dan’s politest way of saying we like Manu, but we don’t like Manu right now.

I think Dan rolled the dice and genuinely wanted to see what Manu could do. He saw it, and he didn’t like what he saw. I think he realized that the risk of playing Manu again is just too great, and now Manu is out and we will roll with the average but consistent vet.
