We were renting. Our temporary house to get under the bridge turned into our family home ( 3 kids will do that)We ended up being there for 9 years. We loved it there and it was affordable. We did not have renters insurance. I honestly had just learned about it a few weeks before the fire.
Understood. So basically it’s needing to afford first and deposit and then replacement of everyone’s stuff. Hang in there, bud. Y’all can do this. It is admittedly one giant step back but two giant steps forward await all of you. And all of you are safe. If there is anything further I can do for you or your family just let me know.
This is truly horrible. But it should serve as a reminder that we are all ultimately renting here on earth. We can’t take anything with us when our time is up. You may have title to some very fancy things, but nothing but your soul really belongs to you, so make sure to take care of that first. So sorry for your pups, but so glad your human family is safe and can rebuild a life in a new home.

It’s perfectly normal for you to feel that way. It hurts because you cared deeply for them, and always will. It isn’t easy, but also a sign that you are a good and decent human.
I have lost a few cats over the past 20+ years to traumatic accidents, and the pain is horrible. It still hurts to think about even 20 years later. The thing that helps most is having your family and eventually new pets to fill the void.
Stay strong. Love your family, and allow yourself to grieve. It is perfectly normal, and may better days be ahead in the near future.
