My only Brad Holmes concern….Gambling Problem?

Hey it’s everyone’s favorite slappy!

I don’t come here often enough to know if you’re new here or not, but if you have an opinion that doesn’t wash the testes of one Brad Holmes or the Lions in general, you will be mocked/ridiculed. I disagree with your sentiment overall, but you do bring up some points of concern. I don’t even need to look at your replies to know that you’ve been met with heavy sarcasm and a series of ridiculous GIFs.

So step brother then

I don’t mind you critiquing the WR group at all… I still am a bit concerned about WR depth myself. But you claiming you got hacked by your step brother after a bunch of drunk posting a few months back will always be hilarious and I will remind you about it :joy:

So what the heck is holding Peoples-Jones back? All off season DPJ has been hyped as the heir apparent to Josh Reynolds. DPJ was going to easily fill the gap left my Reynolds. So what exactly is holding him back? Still working on some timing issues with Goff? Poor route running? Lack of separation? We need him to step up. This Daurice Fountain hype seems a little too much Tom Kennedyish to me right now. Need to hear some reports about Goff and Peoples-Jones finding a rhythm.

It’s too early to annoint or cut anyone at this point.

Sure.

Guys like Benito, Buggs, Kennedy, Parker, Netflix had a rightful place on our previous pre-season depth chart and camp battles.

4 off-seasons in, and in superbowl aspirations and I’d like to believe guys like Bates, Fountain, Pat O’Connor, Betts will have no place here.

There are players like Russell Gage, J Simmons,

Ah yes, the guy with the busted neck and torn patella – or the old guy who wants way too much money.

Try harder.

Reading this thread, certain posts in particular, reminds me of of the poster who complained that BH was drafting as, suffering as, the smartest guy in the room syndrome.

This same poster is now posting as the smartest guy in the room but is too stupid to realize it.

Wow.

We got better at CB with C Davis over Sutton, but he has missed 16 games over the past 3 years, and did have a down year. We did get better at CB2 and CB3, as Amik Robertson is surely better Jacobs, and Arnold better than Vildor. We even added Rakestraw for the future and could have options at NB with Moseley supposedly looking quite healthy?

What about DE? What about OG? What about backup C, or a worst case scenario for Ragnow? What about WR3.

We spent a 1st, early 2nd, big FA contract, and traded a 6th in addition to extending players.

YES I LIKE THE TOP END OF OUR CURRENT CAST MUCH BETTER…. BRAVO!

What I don’t understand is why we are supposed to be SB contenders- we have the SECOND MOST CAP ROOM- and we have massive holes at DE and WR and concerns about IOL depth.

If we were going to draft role players and projects with 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,
5th over 2 years that had very little expectation to make short term impact… maybe a few more vet signings?

I honestly expected to be well beyond the AJ Parker, Trinity Benson, Buggs/Benito,
skipper type roster spots.

Maybe others want to see street level players while we sit on 42M in cap space?

Let’s say it’s for Barnes, McNeill, and Iffy- okay great with no money next year what do we do to fill out the roster with no money or picks?

We won’t have second most cap space… Will probably end up in the middle… What I think is this —> They believe in their guys much more than the fan base does. The “projects” Are not as big of projects to them.

I also think they have a more holistic view, where it’s about the team rather than certain positions. In other words, what helps the team more… Having an absolute nuclear warhead at one position with less depth at another, or having good depth that all positions? All NFL rosters have perceived holes.

We already had Monty and Netflix… We could have just added another running back that was somewhere between their talent levels and that would have given us good depth… Had we done that, we could have a bit more of a higher profile wide receiver

Would that Approach have helped more than having Gibby?

I think not.

We could do several scenarios like that, but this gives you an ideas as to what I’m thinking.

No money next year?

LOL

The more words you use the more you show you aren’t as smart as you think.

I shocked he hasn’t thrown a fit about back up QB

I will avoid insulting a fellow fan on the internet as it serves no purpose. I presume we’d get along just fine in the “real world” so I will submit.

I didn’t state we didn’t have money. I stated that “if” we sign McNeill, Barnes, and or Iffy we will have spent out 26M- next year once you factor our draft class.

Say what you want- but we don’t have a top 2-3 roster top to bottom. This year we had to overcome the below free agents and had a full draft class…

CJGJ-
Reynolds-
Sutton-
Jonah-
Jacobs-
Romeo-
Benito-
C Harris-
Moseley-

Those guys were cut or left via free agency. We had 60M and picked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Carlton Davis, 4th, 4th, 6th, 6th… so extra picks and TONS of money to build our 24’ roster.

Next year?

McNeill
C Davis
Iffy
Barnes
Zietler
Comish
Moseley
Houston
Levi O

Plus we only have 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7 and about 26M.

We have more and bigger hold to fill, less money and less picks.

It will be fine…?

Brother - you are one of my, if not my favorite poster on this forum.

If Sorsdal, Bro Mart, Vaki, Manu, Mahogany, Wingo… Green are major contributors? Sure I’m a moron.

I’m nervous for nothing.

The reality is that wingo has turned some heads, Vaki is an isn’t a ST stud, and maybe Wingo and Sorsdal give some breather or injury reps.

Other elite teams are getting 7-9 sacks, 1400 yards rushing or receiving, full time starter OL reps, and full time starting DB reps. That’s on playoff ready teams.

According to Spotrac we have $53M to work with in 2025. That’s enough to sign McNeill and extend Hutch – and with that extension, there could be some creative restructuring to free up more space for another free agent – say Zeitler. We get another $6M if Sutton loses his grievance.

What “holes” we’ll have has yet to be seen. It depends on how the current roster performs. Backups on the O-line won’t be expensive, though, even if all of Sorsdal, Mahogany, et al don’t pan out – but odds are, one will perform acceptably. I personally think Rakestraw takes over for Davis, and BroMart provides depth on the D-line.

The real questions I think will be filling Big End (you missed Davenport on your list) and SAM. I think those can be addressed through the draft.

You are overanalyzing to the endth degree.

Lions have one of the best rosters in the league.
Injuries can hurt the team.
You will never have high end quality backups at every position.
BH has built a roster that is good enough to get to the Championship game and, imo, the SB.

You can carry on but I will choose to believe that BH is the smartest guy in the room when it comes to building a roster within the rules of the league.

Would I have done some things differently, sure, definitely even, but we are what we are

Not sure which is correct… Deadstroke? Over the cap shows 26M next year and 42M right now.

It’s possible Sportstrac is assuming we roll 27M over to next year and keep 15M for in season moves in 24’

Brother- I’m sure we’d get along smashingly outside of the “internet” where things are frequently taken out of context.

It’s August- I guess we can all agree Brad is a god, and we will likely play in the Super Bowl this year, then shut up and wait? That would take some fun and the entire point out of this forum though.

I seem to remember half this forum, myself included really questioning Dan, and especially DC through about week 7 of 22’. Guys like Natty saw the forest through the trees the whole time. Good on him.

Others like Nutzz, myself and plenty more have been on the JG bandwagon since the day of the trade. We knew what was coming next, and had no concerns about 19-20’ in a toxic situation.

These are two very good examples of why you should just put a lid on this overanalyzing that you are doing. You are worried about things that won’t even be a factor this year. As frm said injuries could hurt the Lions…injuries can hurt ANY TEAM…but the Lions have one of the better rosters in the entire league. Not worried about them this year. If the Lions start losing key players to free agency THEN every thing that you have expressed a concern for would be a true concern. But they have locked up their key pieces that drives the team. The only worry I would have, if any, is if Goff gets hurt.
