Nate Tice Preseason NFL draft rankings

Ross is basically the DE version of Justin Scott. That is why I find it odd. I guess there is a bit more scarcity with the super freaky 300lb DT so perhaps that’s it. I’d probably leave both off for now bc it’s a slippery slope slope. Where do you stop with the could he’s? Why not Williams Nnamweri for instance. They have a much better DC who has been creative with his pressure packages and he’s raving about WN. If WN has a ten sack season with those measurable and pedigree he’s going very high. But so far he’s been a JAG. There are just so many of those guys and it’s such a truncated list that I think he should have stuck to guys with a proof of concept.

I was glad to see Traore in there. And it seems the Omarion Miller hype train is in full gear, one of the Daft on Draft guys had him as a 1st rounder last year.

And I don’t think he’s ranked anyone highly who’s been a JAG to this point. has he? Traits be damned? They’ve at last flashed something. Scott has at least been the source of plenty of backfield havoc (though like you I’m a little lower on him… in fact I’m always wary of guys on elite lines, their jobs are so much easier and many end up busting, while a couple become stars… telling which is which is part of the job).

Me too. As you know I’ve loved him for two years.

He’s always been awesome but just can’t stay on the field.

Yep. He would have been right there with Bain as my top edge in last year’s class, though of course this class is a lot more stacked. And he’s pretty superfluous with Moore.

Scott has been fine. JAG adjacent IMO and if you remember I’ve been bullish on him for a while bc of the chatter around that program. But Moten has been way beyond fine. When Scott came in Mario said something like, “I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve never seen a guy that big move like that.” I’m pretty sure that is the reason for the lofty ranking not his play to date. I’m certain of it in fact.

I think that’s the main reason for it, for sure. But unlike WN there has at least been SOME impact. But yeah, Moten has been far more impactful. The draft community is oddly lukewarm on him. I’m not sky high or anything but I’ve got him around 15th or so tentatively, and in that class that makes him pretty damn high. It is a deep DT class though with many different flavors.

Statistically WN has actually had more impact. I think they are generally in the same bucket. Butler had no idea what he was doing. He just a secondary coach with the Peter principal applied. Miami’s defensive coaching is tremendous. I’m not calling my shot on my WN but you could make an argument for him deserving more grace than Scott. And unlike Ross WN’s got the Mario Williams build/traits so he is every bit the statistical rarity that Scott is.

I just think with all those types the right approach is that you’ve been in college for two full years it’s time for you to prove it.

I also think Wingo should be on the list. I strongly prefer him to Marsh and probably even Becker.

Yep, agree on Wingo over Marsh and Becker. I’d have TJ Moore up there as well… probably about the same level as Marsh, though I’m a touch lower on him. Early 2nd maybe. And Wesco nipping at their heels. There’s also a chance Justin Bowick does a Stribling. The guy is a freak (which is why he’s on Feldman’s list).

It will be interesting to see how that Miami DL shakes out. I am wary of all of them and interested all the same. Even in Scott who probably impressed me the least. But that’s the inherent problem with WN, it will be impossible to answer whether the talent around him allowed him to rack up numbers. Obviously you still want him to be a success, but with his gifts he should have already been dominating.

Where are you on Ryan Williams? You tend to be more forgiving of the down years if they’ve flashed, but man it was a DOWN year.

I like Wesco too. Flip back and forth on which Clemson WR I prefer. And I’m still hopeful that we get freshman Ryan Williams back.

Just saw this. Hopeful but I haven’t followed Bama camp. What have you heard, @HSVLion ?

None of us know what to think. The writing has been positive, expecting him to have a big year and all, but the general feel around here is “of course they’re going to write/say that kind of stuff.” He’s been acting a bit…off…

The name change, number change…announcing publicly that you’re not going to wear gloves…we’re really just over the publicity stuff. We want to see the performance on the field to back that up. Also, you can’t find a clip of him in camp making a “hands” catch instead of a body catch. He’s a body catcher like Tyreek Hill was. I doubt the drop problems are going to get much better.

Connor is also buying into Scott. I forgot about Zabien Brown. I’d probably have him around my top 30.

Was he Frosh drop rate super high? I don’t recall it being scary high. Certainly not like last year.

I don’t recall it being as bad as it was last year but he did have some drops. He was also just as much of a body catcher back then as well.
