Yes, you are, a run is designed to go to the RB, in this case you’re choosing 2 that are less talented than Gibbs/DMO
Not in TeSlaa’s case, he was not the primary read on any of his catches… And his 4th down designed play failed, many of us didn’t like the play call either bc it was a 1 read, all or nothing play… A play in which Jamo was WIDE open had Goff held the ball a half second longer.
Wright is only the primary option on deception/misdirection plays, that’s not what you’re talking about… You’re suggesting taking the ball out of your 2 best backs hands and giving it to a lesser player for load management… Again, hard pass for me
Not all offensive plays are runs. And not all runs go to the running back. In the Lions case in 2025, non RB have combined for more runs than their 3rd string RB
er wat? disagree. His first catch Goff didn’t look anywhere else. His second catch he sure looked like the first/only read even though Goff held the safety with his eyes
I don’t remember his third catch
Why does that matter. I didn’t like that play call either. Doesn’t change the thesis

Look, we are talking about a lot of things. I’ll try to simplify it. I will probably fail:
on any given play the team has 5 eligible players (not counting the QB). I feel it is in the team’s best interest to minimize wear and tear on their RB, especially Gibbs. I want these guys healthy in January. The best way to do this is to use their backup RB in low leverage spots and to occasionally use them in running plays
What are the chances the QB gets killed if attempting to throw to the 1st read, 2nd, 3rd, etc.?
The longer that Goff holds the ball, the higher the chances he gets killed.
Which WR has the highest likelihood of getting open on that 1st read?
Goff is the #1 player to protect in our offense (biggest drop off in chances to win with him out). I don’t care if he targets ARSB 15 times a game if ARSB is open and he’s the first read, throw him the ball. Any play designed for Teslaa has a much lower chance of success vs a throw to ARSB in most circumstances.
I actually liked the play call to Teslaa. I thought Goff made a poor throw. Teslaa’s big advantage is size and jumping ability. Teslaa had his guy beat. Instead of trying to lead him, the ball should have been at him and high. Let him “climb the ladder” and go up and get it. I think the chances of a TD or PI would have been much higher. Goff threw the ball so far in front that the slight tug by the DB was let go because the ball really didn’t appear catchable.
Mouse friend all22. Has some concerns about our route concepts and our efficiency going forward. But I think, I hope, these will get sorted out with the extra time with the Bye.
The Lions were the #1 scoring offense in the regular season on 2024.
Right now the Lions are the #3 scoring offense in the NFL and are a bullshit TD call away from being tied for #2. The Cowboys are on a heater at #2 playing terrible teams and the Colts are #1.
The Lions have also played a VERY tough schedule. 4 road games and 3 home games. Packers, Browns, Chiefs and Bucs are all legit very good NFL defenses and the Bears are solid. Ravens were banged up.
I’m not worried about touches at all. Score points, win games and repeat.
