Ok No Rags how do you address the center position?

I probably need to check back in on Green. I watched him earlier in the year and came away pretty unimpressed, but I’ve since heard that it was a stretch of bad games. Definitely an OG though, I agree.

Keylan Rutledge just accepted a Senior Bowl invite, he has some appealing traits, I just can’t tell that he has enough juice. It’s close, and if he does I love his tenacity and the way he displaces guys.

I really hope Kade Pieper declares. He’s small but man, maybe the best iOL I’ve ever seen at the second level. And for his size more pop than you’d think, seems like more of a Linderbaum/Kelce type to me than someone who won’t hold up. But he’s only a redshirt sophomore and word is he’s going back to school to take reps at center now that Logan Jones is gone. I also like Beau Stephens off the same line. I like all 3 (including Jones) better than Dunker.

If Jaedan Roberts could stay healthy he might be my favorite combo of anchor + juice. But man he’s always coming in and out of games.

Rutledge reminds me of Mahogany. I’m glad he’s going to the senior bowl because I haven’t seen a lot of him yet.

Have you watched Jacob Spomer of Fresno State? He’s too lean to play right away but his athleticism is quite evident.

Gulbin of Michigan St. was the other.

Oh and Bruce Mitchell of BYU.

Those are the three names outside of the guys I knew of preseason that I think I find most intriguing.

Mitchell is a DT convert that just mauls. High character. Wife is a pro athlete and he’s Mormon so he’ll be on point from a professionalism standpoint.

But he’s very new to playing the spot. Is he ready to handle the mental stuff.

That’s kind of the rub with all of these guys. How ready can any be next year being that:

Spomer needs to put on 12-15 pounds and recently moved from LT, Mitchell is a recent DT convert and Gulbin’s college snaps before this year were at OG.

I think Gulbin will be ready from a mental standpoint day one. A year’s worth of reps is pretty good, and if he’s got the smarts for it, he’s got it. Barton hadn’t played center in a long time when TB drafted him (since freshman year I believe, and only for a year), yet he hit the ground running. I think he’d take the least amount of time to give us a baseline. How quickly he moves toward a ceiling is a different matter.

Gulbin probably moves the least well of the three but otherwise he seems pretty solid.

I have not watched tape on any of those guys yet. I am aware of Mitchell but I know he is older and new to the Center position. Does that mean practice squad for a couple years before he is ready? He does look like he could also play OG.

Right. Therein lies the problem.

I watched 2 quarters of SJSU vs. Fresno State just to check out Spomer bc it’s so damn hard to find footage of him at Center. Against that level of competition dude is a superstar. The best way I can describe it is that it was like he’s an electric car and all the other lineman are ICE vehicles. His acceleration was just different. He’s pretty physical downhill especially on the second level. He seems to sink his hips well on bull rushes, I assume learned from his years at Left Tackle, but that’s not going to matter at the next level without some more mass. The dude is built like a sawed off version of an early 90s Y TE; barrel chested and probably 14-15% body fat. But if he’s actually 290 that’s pretty impressive bc he’s so damn lean. Wouldn’t shock me if it’s actually closer to 285 in season. So he’s a ways out from a mass POV.

With him I assume it’s UDFA and a season of two on the PS. But given his versatility he may actually be an ideal OL8 or 9 while he adds mass.

I’ve been impressed with him all year but this was my most thorough viewing.

Mitchell I think is ready physically. No idea mentally. Like you said I think he’ll be a 25 y/o rookie so you’d hope the acclimatizing is accerlerated.

First team all-Moutain West. Hopefully he gets a chance at one of the all-star games, though it looks like he might have another year of eligibility if he wants it since his freshman year was the covid year. I’m not even sure how that’s possible anymore.

How much money would he get if he entered the portal and went to USC, UCLA or Oregon next year? I’m sure it would be more than a 7th round pick. Even an undrafted FA can get a lot more than a 7th round pick. Playing at a big school and adding 15 lbs sounds like his best option.

Just draw a circle in the center I

I wonder if he has eligibility left. Looks like he graduated high school in 2019.

My guess is he’d probably get a couple 100k in the portal. NFL min dor rookies will probably be 900k by next year. So if he thinks he can make a roster he should absolutely declare. If he’s on the PS an entire year that’s 13k per week. Perhaps a bit more next year. That’s probably in the ballpark.

I think he’ll be in the draft. Not sure he gets drafted but I think he’ll be in this cycle.

Who is the QB next year Dylan or LaTeef? I ask because a friend of mine told me he heard Dylan was going to test the waters in the Portal. My response was good and I hope he takes his uncle with him. lol

Pretty sure Dylan is gone. And it’s really just about the NFL.

I’m still a believer in TJ IF we get rid of Donovan Raiola, add a plus OL coach and bring back Emmett for one more year.

Donovan is their biggest liability outside of game day Matt Rhule.

Happy Donovan Raiola is no longer our shitty OL coach day.

Too bad that Emmett is gone. Perhaps the advisory committee gives him less than ideal news and we can throw a bag at him and get him back.

Did they fire him?

I think Emmet has to go pro after the season he just had.

I just saw the news. I think Wade is a great hire. I can’t believe we got him. He had to be one of the most in demand position coaches in all of football.

Yep. Such a that we lost out on Kehres at DC. Rumor is that Rhule didn’t want to give him autonomy with bis defensive staff and Fran Brown was willing to.
