Olaivavega Ioane, LG, Penn State?

Easily the best interior offensive lineman in this draft class, Ioane (6-foot-4, 335 pounds) is a plug-and-play left guard who is an anchor as a pass protector and a mauler as a run blocker. He’s likely going to grade out similarly to last year’s first-round pick, Tyler Booker, yet stylistically, he’ll remind people of former Lion Larry Warford, who was a big-bodied bully in the trenches.

I don’t know that he’s easily the best interior lineman in the draft, but he’s probably the consensus best interior lineman. That said I think he’s more like Steve Avila, Will Hernandez, etc… and the other bruising iOL who tend to go in the 2nd round. He’s a similar sort of player to Booker, and while I certainly didn’t have Booker graded as high as he went last year, he was a better prospect than Ioane.

Warford was always hurt. (it seemed like)

Warford started 57 out of 64 games for the Lions.

Curious, how many games he actually completed/finished out of those 57?

Well, he played 100% of the snaps in 2013 and 2016. 89% of the snaps in 2014 and 92% of the snaps in 2015. I don’t think he qualifies as a player who was often-injured.

I like the idea of drafting a stud left guard.

Tate Goes to Center.

And let the rest of the guards compete for Right Guard. Maybe even bring in a vet in free agency to compete with Mahogs and Frazier for Right Guard

Now if Decker retires, well that complicates things for sure

Too bad we didn’t try Frazier at any T spots

Yea that could be a possibility too. Sucks he missed all of training camp and most of the season. I’m not sold on Mahogany either. Seems decent run blocking but big time whiffs in pass protection. Then again he has missed a ton of time too the past 2 seasons

IMO, Mahogany looked a lot better at RG two years ago than LG last year. Of course, he had Frank on his left and Penei on his right. But maybe a good LG added, Tate to C, and move Mahog back to RG. Let Frazier fight for either G spot.

I don’t think he was fully healthy after his return.

That also may have played a factor. I still think he’s a gamer and expect him to play one of the G positions next year. I hope it’s whatever one he feels most comfortable with.

We have Glasgow (under contract through 26), Rat, Mahogs, and Frazier.

Maybe, we should be looking for a LT?

Agree.

Decker is under contract for 26 & 27 but non of it is guaranteed. He has a roster bonus of $1.5 million on the 5th day of the league year. $14.9 mill contract for 2026.
