On Cade Mays

Ooh, thanks for posting. Seems no-nonsense and ready to work. Right up our alley.

IMO Cade is a better Center for the Detroit Lions than Linderbaum would be.

I don’t think it’s very close, honestly.

same here.

I wanted Mays over Linderbaum when I thought Linderbaum would get $20-24 million AAV…. and I thought Mays would get $10-14 million AAV.

After the deals were made… my mind was blown!!!

I just though there was a clear tier at the top group of FAs in Mays, McGovern and Linderbaum. The latter I knew would be too expensive relative to his talent, and McGovern went back to Buffalo before the year started, leaving one good option imo.

And I thought out of every position, C was the one we HAD to solve in FA.

I’m not trying to hear this shit. Dude isn’t as good a Ragnow and people try to make him sound like Demontri Dawson. The transition tag for centers is 23,5M this guy makes 8M per yr and plays in a phone booth.

Hey, it’s fine if you don’t want to believe the guy we signed will be any good. I get it.

Actually, no I don’t. But whatever.

Well when I hear guys like Jon Jansen say, he can only play in a phone booth. His game isn’t pulling in the run game. When we have literally asked that of our interrior line with Campbells offense. Who am I suppose to believe about line play? Jansen or the wanna be scouts on this board? The fact TJ Lang is also questioning wtf is going on is also a red flag. I’m not trying to hate just to hate, I quoted 2 legit sources here.

And I can throw quotes at you from other OL with more nuanced takes (who aren’t on take TV/radio) who say otherwise. They also don’t watch tape for a living, they don’t have time for it, they’re media personalities. Yes, they know what they’re talking about, but that format doesn’t allow for any nuance (and frankly Jansen’s take was more nuanced than you’re giving it credit for being).

What I offered was a deep take from someone without any rooting interest who looks at it from a coaching/scouting perspective, and who has watched more snaps of the guy than anyone else on here, and probably the vast majority of anyone commenting on it. No, not everyone will agree, but I mean, just read what he says about the both Mays and Linderbaum. This is not a guy who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I would venture to say he knows more about OL play than anyone in here.

This all sounds great! Thats my kind of guy. I’m glad BH and DC continue to build like this. A team that will beat your ass. Co starring Gibbs and Waymo.

He kinda sounds like Hutch when he speaks… Seems like a good dude, I like that he wanted to be here and play Detroit brand of football

He’s 325 pounds. Massive for a Center. I think his movement skills are fine when you take that into account. Can he execute all the blocks that Frank could? Nope. But his movement skills are as good as GG’s IMO and he’s significantly better as a mauler.

Outside of the truly elite players most guys have their strength and weaknesses. That even goes for a guy like Jansen who was of course an excellent RT.

I don’t see any quotes so actually you did not. Some world class paraphrasing though.

FWIW, I find a lot of ex players in the media mail it in from a research perspective. They just fall back on having played in the league as a credibility backstop. Not saying that about TJ (who I like as a person quite a bit) or Jansen (who has the personality of a refrigerator box) specifically.

Now is he gonna kick ass? No idea. But I like this dudes attitude and demeanor.

Lions actually don’t ask the center to “pull” in the run game… like almost never.

so that take seems a bit misguided.
