Id say round 3, but i dont think pick 60 is out. Im big on Billy Bowman Jr. and if we took him at 60 or we traded down into round 2 and picked him? Im fine. Great instincts like Branch. Faster 40 than Branch. Not the frame and tackling of Branch, but shows he can tackle. Really smooth feet in his backpedal. Playmaker.
I wont ever complain adding a good football player. But, yeah, not taking one a Safety 28 i wouldn’t think.
You are a lot higher on Bowman than I am. I agree with you he is a playmaker but he just don’t tackle enough for me. He will come up and shoot for an ankle but with his size I don’t think he will ever be a good wrap up tackler. He only has 28.5" arms. That not only makes it hard to wrap up ball carriers but he will have a tough time with contested catches in the NFL. I would not want him with any of our first 4 picks.
Fair. His instincts make up for a lot of it. And i think youre shorting him on his tackling. A few times ive seen the Lion in him. He will be a greaf Safety in the NFL. Earl Thomas/Brian Branch instincts. He reads the field like a top NBA defender. He could even gain a few healthy pounds possibly Exceptional. I think he will be a good player. But, ill take him at 101 then, lol.
I would also look at 2 guys listed at CB that may fit better at Safety is Caleb Ransaw from Tulane and Darrien Porter from Iowa St. Their speed may give them a shot at CB but their play says they would be better at Safety. Just my opinion.
I think he will be one we keep 4 he has been with team PS an they moved him to roster late. I agree add at least one more an add at least a CB . A lot depends on how they feel about other positions. We should add one OL likely a OG an if they like others we have we can pick up another CB or S depending on how draft falls an what picks they use to move around also.
They can trade the third rd pick for AG the one next season Thats a pick they could use to move on the board.
There will be players released after draft an again at final roster cuts .
I have been vocal about my love of Winston but it looks like Mickens is pretty underrated too. @Jman’s boy Mukuba shows up, and we’ve met with Valcarcel (see the visits thread) as well. Time to look into Will Brooks and Omar Rogers.
That was always the scoop on him though, great cover guy, bad tackler. Maybe I didn’t know he was such an outlier in both categories, but that was the skinny.
I was surprised to see Elliott that high for coverage, but not run defense. That was always his bag, not the pass defense. I wonder how much the picks played into the equation? Because though he had quite a few, if you go back and watch they fell right into his lap. Lots of sailed passes and bad Big 12 QB play that year, outside of Baker and Rudolph.
You know, a guy like Nohl Williams might not be a bad call either. “Was primarily an outside corner but has also taken snaps at box safety and in the slot. " He has taken 261 snaps in the box in the last 3 seasons and has good size at 6’0” and 199 pounds.
You know I love me some Nohl, and yeah he could work there too. At the least his versatility makes him appealing. I was worried he might not test great and so it proved, but at least it’s kept his stock from going nuclear.
Do you know anything about that Valcarcel guy who plays for Northern Illinois? I know you follow at least some of those midwestern MAC schools but I could just be getting them confused with the other NIU, because I know you follow Northern Iowa.
