P Mann

Some interesting comments here about what they’re looking for.

I really think we are making it a priority that we are a top 5 ST unit. People tend to forget how equally important this is. I never forget the year the chargers had the #1 offense and a top 5 defense but because of gaffes in ST all year they didn’t even win division or a playoff game.

I think Fox Has Inside track He had year with PS teams an that has to help ,

Height: 6-2 …Age 23… Weight 224 lbs
2018: 13 games, 80 punts, 3,636 yards, 45.5 average, 23 extra points attempted and made, 12 field goals attempted and five made.
The front office could attempt to stash Fox on the practice squad, but it could backfire on them.

Mann at the Combine did something like 25 bench-press reps at 225 lbs. – more than every WR and all but a couple of TEs.

There are actually a couple of good, big-legged punters available who would be instant upgrades over Sam Martin. With that in mind, I wouldn’t want to see the Lions draft one until the 6th round at the earliest.

One of the punters in the draft this year is from Syracuse. So yeah… lock it up.

That was Michael Turk that tore up the bench press at the combine.

Ya if they take one in the 6th that is fine. If their guy is not here then Fox has a shot. ONE thing for sure a good punter gets let go every year as teams stick with a proven commodity over a rookie most of the time.

What happened to Ryan Santoso. He looked good in camp the last 2 years. get him back from Montreal.

I expect the Lions to add another punter to the competition. I’m not sure if they will do it via the draft or not.

They have 2 now not sure they need another but might if one slips they like

Neither has NFL experience either.

I expect them to add more competition before training camp. BQ is a fool if he lets just two unproven Punters battle it out for the starting spot.

Wile has been around the league for a while and did a decent job in 2018 and did a nice job last year in Atlanta as a fill in for 2 games.
Fox https://riceowls.com/sports/football/roster/jack-fox/4157 had a decent career at Rice. No different than drafting a punter really. A draft pick would be just as unproven.

Be tough to replace Sam Martin on Kick-offs. He could boom them deep or kick them pretty high and have them come down around the goal line. So how has it been working for the Lions? Swimmingly. Detroit ranks ninth in kick return average allowed (21.1) and their defense has [the third-best starting field position in the entire NFL. Here is the complete article
