It’s my understanding that the new team is responsible for the difference… So if he was making $5 million/year in Indy and $9 million/year in Carolina, the Panthers would be on the hook for $4 million/ year for the remaining years from the Colts contract. Not 100% sure, but I remember reading that at some point.

Reich is a former Lions player… (which I didn’t realize until I saw him in a Lions uniform during the Bye Bye Barry documentary).
It’s clear Reich and Campbell have some sort of relationship. We essentially “traded” Deuce for Montgomery.

The Colts burden was lightened by the Panthers.
The Panthers burden will be lightened by whom he works for next.
If it’s the Patriots, he’ll be a low-level 5-figure salary guy, leaving Tepper on the hook for 99.5% of the contract he signed.

If the 1st job would have paid him 8 mil per year for 2023, but his 2nd job paid him 9 mil, then the 1st team is fully off the hook.
If his 1st job would have been 8 mil for 2023, but his 2nd job is lower at, say, 4 mil… then the 1st employer owes him the difference.
This is what makes New England so filthy. They bring back failed HC’s as “consultants” and pay them less than a mil while the other team remains on the hook for 90+% of what was signed for.
